Yes, I am running XP Home. Why you ask?

My PC has been infected with the Sobig virus 3 days in a row now - I know this because I clean once a day. My problem is this, I know I'm not clicking on the .pif file. Here's what is strange though, I've been getting sobig e-mails in my Horde inbox - but they are sans attachement. My only guess if the file is opening automatically in Horde? This makes no sense I know, but it the only way I can explain the 3 day in a row infection. So I'm going to ask for help from the gang. If you use Horde and got some of the known subjects for sobig, could you please run your anti-virus (if you don't daily) and report back if you are infected. If anyone else can look at how I might be getting infected without clicking on an attachement, please advise. If anyone can look into the Horde question in general that woudl be great. Thanks for your time and help.

Another tip, when submiting your site to a section, check to be sure it has and active editor! If it does not, consider becoming an editor! There is a huge backlog of stuff - the category I volunteered for had some submissions that were 2 and a half years old! So if getting listed sooner rather than later REALLY matters to you consider volunteering. You have to edit other sites in your category fairly, but you get input into your final description, get it done faster and get to learn about your collaborators/competition. We make want to add a help section on this topic.

while I still don't link back to the home page, I e-mailed Inktomi and the bot stopped going nuts on that page a few hours ago and is now indexing the front of the site. I'd still love to fix thsi issue so it links back - but we'll see if the next release of IPB solves it when it upgrades. Thanks for the thoughts people!

I seem to have new page ranks this morning. the cutoff for being rated on some of the new pages is somewhere between 6/5/2003 and 6/23/2003 - as a 6/5 page now has a page rank that didn't and the 6/23 one doesn't. I think they changed some things though as a page that had a page rank of 2 and now has a 5 is LOWER on that search term than it was before. My rank went up from 2's and 3's to 5 and 6's - but overall I seem to have lost pace with some sites that moved up even more? Mad!!! Anyone with ideas for tweaking this, to improve next time, I'm all ears. (it appears this all flipping around a bit as I now see 3's again.)

Not most, but very important... content (and how it is structured) is most important. you've hinted at this a bit and unless I've missed something, I've never seen a clear explanation. right now some of my pages have a PR of 3, a few have PR 2 and the newer pages have PR of zero. I look forward to seeing this as well.

I have them in my pages and I'm not terribly dissatisifed with my rankings, though they could be better. My rankings clearly indicate that links are most important, as the artists with the most and strongest site link ins come up much higher than the ones that don't. For example Something Corporate has the most link ins and a search on google for the term musicfrisk shows that band as most relevant. Those links are even moderately difficult to me in a non-competitve environment with a collaborator. I must say that I don't how other people who sell things to peopel go about doing this, it must be difficult to get accomplished. Buitin terms of when page ranks get updated - please don't ask I have no idea!

I signed up at the dmoz forum and very politely, in a short post, requested some feedback on what was going on... the response was quick. The site is now listed. I'd say Google has nothing to worry about if that is the best they can do, likely too simplistic I know... All that is indexed is a ton of message board links and almost zero relevant pages. Actually the big question is will people understand why there is a difference and know where to go?

Thanks for your thoughts. I totally agree with all of it - including the way you look at it. All this new CEO at Yahoo has done is destroyed and homogenized what was once a great brand - piece by piece - e-mail, personals, ads, etc. I see nothing to indicate he won't do the same in destroying search in the name of profit. Will he be successful? It all depends on how good a job the other organizations with an interest and people like you me do. How effective are we at convincing people that this is bad? Will the masses care? I for one will be sorry to see the association end - if only because I like the way Yahoo displays the top 20 items instead of the top 10 like Google.com does...can Yahoo even really replace it in two months? What search engines use Inktomi data now that one could look at to see where they'd stand in that world?

With the Inktomi and Overture purchases, it's clear that Yahoo is going to eventually stop using Google search data. My question of the moment is this, does anyone know the date the current agreement expires? Stated a different way, how long can we expect to see Google search data still on Yahoo? Thanks. Anyone with thoughts on how to optimize differently for Inktomi is welcome - I see half of my hits comign from Yahoo and half from Google now - so now is a decent time to consider the potential ramifications of these issues.
