  1. You can try Sourceforge.
  2. This is purely conjecture so please correct me if my assumptions are wrong. Google does not have the whole Internet in its database so that may explain why you don't get any links when you try that command with your website. Like for instance, I typed a certain search query which is unique enough that it does not appear on any other pages except on the one that I have in mind and sometimes Google does not come out with any result. I'm guessing Google either cannot or has not crawled to that page yet so it could be that it hasn't crawled to your page. And I'm just guessing the same works for the links command.
  3. Why would someone want to go to all the trouble to hack a person's email account, I'll never know. Bob, how come you're not a fan of gmail? Is it because of their AdSense?

  5. That would be -pretty- long. Wow Thomas you've got one heck of an Internet connection there.
  6. Mmm thanks. Well I've turned logging off now and I'll just sit tight and hope for the best that I don't get disconnected again.

  8. I agree with Mike. Try making sure you have the most updated software if possible. There's even a list of software purported not to work with XP SP2 on the Microsoft website. Personally I've not had a problem with SP2... the only thing was the Security Centre which seems to duplicate the effort of my existing programs, and I'm sure many other people's programs as well eg checking to see if your Antivirus definitions are up to date, that's already being done by my current Antivirus software. Good luck with it.
  9. I've set-up Invision Board successfully without too much difficulty. What do you mean by permissions? It's pretty much all in the manuals, it's quite straightforward (I didn't even have to go to other websites, thanks to their excellently written manuals) but if you have a more specific question, I'll be happy to try and answer it. Or someone else who comes along will too if they could.
  10. Plain text? Thanks Rob. Yeah I'm using TLS for encryption as well.
  11. Thanks Mike and Bob, that makes a lot of sense but how do you tell if you've got a trojan or adware working on your PC sending traffic outside if you've turned off logging? And speaking of firewall log tools (SNMP) and IDS, what do you guys use by any chance? Rob, counteract in perhaps having a selective logging utility that stops log floods by ignoring a particular IP after the port probes have gone on over a pre-specified number of ports, say 10 ports or more within 5 minutes for example. Not counterattack. Naughty Also, another side effect (less but still happens when logging is turned off) is my Internet connection gets jammed after awhile, speaking from a layman point of view, it's as if all those port probes from multiple hosts (it's the same port probe but from multiple computers) have jammed up my computer Internet connection that legal packets trying to get out of my computer is having taking forever. Is this possible or am I understanding it wrongly?
  12. Cool. I'll have a look at Support Logic Helpdesk and try it out. I've tried Help Center Live once myself and it seems to have a neater presentation than Crafty Syntax Live. However I haven't used it extensively enough to find out about the beeps. Thanks for bringing that up, Thomas.
  13. Popup blocking is different from blocking ads on the same page itself. They're both ads except one's embedded into the page and the other just keeps popping out, creating new windows.
  14. I agree with Bruce that framed pages do cause problems with search engines. However a couple of years back when frames were the popular thing, I did up a site based on frames and had pretty good search engine placements on all the popular ones. It's always good to have an extra set of navigation, I agree and PHP sounds like a good and fast way of implementing it. All this is if you still can't get your frame protection in place, otherwise visitors should be able to still visit any of your pages via search engines and get automatically redirected to within a frame. Good luck with it.
  15. The method I've used before is Javascript-based and basically it checks to see if the parent frame has been loaded when the page within the frame is called. This can be done by checking to see if home.htm is at the top via the following condition, if self == top, then we know that home.htm is not within the frames. Personally I prefer using the alternate method of checking via top.frames.length which checks to see the number of frames present at the moment. Then point top.location.href to the appropriate frame page that you want. My memory may have been rusty and this is just off the top of my head so let me know if it works. Hope this helps.

  17. Would anybody happen to know what authentication scheme TCH uses for its mail servers? The FAQs doesn't give me much to go by unfortunately.
  18. Thank you, Jim, for the offer to help with POP3. IMAP would be more practical for me at the moment. I think I'm using the latest version - it's 3.0 right?
  19. Bob, thank you for the answer. My antivirus scanner is updated and the scan didn't turn up anything. My firewall blocks traffic both way - I am using ZoneAlarm. As far as I know, I don't have any trojans on the computer. My computer's secure according to GRC. My ports are closed and ping does not pass through. My firewall logging is off at the moment although I do feel 'blind' now. Is there any utility, hardware or software that would be able to counteract such attacks without compromising the speed of the computer and still allow one to view what's going on? Maybe I'm asking for utopia here but it doesn't hurt to ask.
  20. I am wondering which Customer Support Script do you find to be pretty good among the rest.

  22. Out of curiosity, how does HTTPS work here? In that, how come we are able to use our domain name when using HTTP ie www.ourdomainname.com/somepage.htm while with HTTPS, we have to use the other form ie serverXX.totalchoicehosting.com/~ourusername/somepage.htm ?
  23. Hmmm that's a good point. I would definitely not like to give people full access to my account space. I was thinking more of giving them restricted access by folders rather than by folder hierarchy. The reason why I would like to give someone access to directories higher than 'public_html' folder is for folders which contain files accessed by files from the 'public_html' folder. As this does not seem possible at the moment, I would have to manually move those files each time someone using other than the main cpanel username/password uploads files to the 'public_html' folder.
  24. Lately I've been getting scanned from a group of IP addresses from the same subnet xxx.xxx.xxx.yyy/24 everytime I log online. I'm guessing they must be targetting my subnet since they seem to appear on my logs a short while after I appear online each time. While my usual reaction has been to simply just ignore them (I don't know what else I can do anyway), this has been slowing my computer down tremendously due to excessive logging. Would it be wise simply disabling logging for these IP addresses? Is there any extra precautions/steps I may take against such scanners? I really don't want to get my computer compromised. Any help would be much appreciated.
  25. Wow thanks Jim for pointing me to the thread. Yeah I came across several pages with photos costing 60 dollars or so in the past, and that immediately sent me in the direction of DIY graphics. But after reading your thread, I think 0.50 onwards for a photo is a lot more reasonable! Thanks for the image resources. *wipes sweat from brow* it's a very handy alternative to DIY images in the event it's something I can find in there.
