  1. You have lots of Extras in your .conf, Bruce -- and I don't even have an Extras section in my (stock) .conf file. So for posterity, append this to the bottom of your conf file -- and watch for a line wrap if you copy/paste from here on the line that has the (.pdf)|//foo... "stuff" > LoadPlugin="geoipfree" The above is the last line of my existing .conf file and below is what I appended. > #----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # EXTRA SECTIONS #----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # To do: Ideally parameterize from not page list. ExtraSectionName1="Downloads (diff, doc, pdf, rtf,sh,tgz, zip) - Top 10" ExtraSectionCodeFilter1="200 304" ExtraSectionCondition1="URL,(.*((\.diff)|(\.doc)|(\.pdf)|(\.rtf)|(\.sh)|(\.tgz)|(\.zip)))" ExtraSectionFirstColumnTitle1="Download" ExtraSectionFirstColumnValues1="URL,(.*)" ExtraSectionFirstColumnFormat1="%s" ExtraSectionStatTypes1=HBL ExtraSectionAddAverageRow1=0 ExtraSectionAddSumRow1=1 MaxNbOfExtra1=10 MinHitExtra1=1
  2. Oooops, googled a little off the TCH site and found it..... in /tmp
  3. Bruce, in what directory would I create the Awstats.yourTCHdomain.conf? (I just looked through all of my directories and cannot find an existing one). Also, permissions? Thanks!! TC
  4. I am putting a document on a server that people will click to download (from inside a PDF). I'd like to see who downloaded the file, so I've turned to Awstats, but: - the file is a PDF and there isn't a "PDF" category in the file listing (downloading a bigger PDF from a link embedded in a brief PDF). - it isn't clear whether the file is tracked if it is "directly addressed" Can anyone help shed some light on this? I tried RTFM for Awstats but can't stay awake doing so... Thanks, TC Edited to make clear that downloadable doc is a pdf
  5. Has anyone tried Alfresco for CMS? Any luck installing it?
  6. Poppy, the popular name for this is a Joe job. It has become rampant on my accounts recently, too -- for no apparent reason.
  7. I've used a wide-open domain (several) for years, with very few spam making it past spam assassin. Convenience is so nice, and the ability to filter those who go "bad" is fun. That said, it is literally in the last few weeks that Joe jobbing has reached extremes, and robbed me of this otherwise perfectly happy experience. If we had more control over Spam Assasin, I could set up a user rule to nuke the "Failed Delivery" messages. As for challenge / response, I've used mailblocks in the past and found it to be adequate, but require some advance planning when sending to a new address.
  8. Gang, I've got a dozen email accounts on my domain, and I use _________@**** indiscriminately (have for years). That means blahblah@**** hits my default address and therefore goes into my main mailbox. I've loved this: no incremental time to create a new address for a new site. Filter when one of those starts spamming me. I've gotten very, very little spam by doing this over the years. Nothing that spamassassin couldn't handle. However, over the past month, I've been getting joe jobbed to the tune of 400 emails a day. I could create a bunch of real forwarders and shut off my default. Trouble is that it would be a hundred of forwarders (and I'm sure I'd forget some). I could also set up some filters to fail the bounces that occur, but then if my mail bounces, I'll never find out. Any other ideas? Any good challenge / response (server based) software I could put in place (wanted to do this for years)? Any one else getting mega joe jobbed recently? Thanks all! TC
  9. trying to find a way to forward a trimmed email to my cell phone. trimming is essential, as a long email just clogs the pipes. There is a good discussion here about filtering versus forwarding and how to get php to play nice. And lots of treo junkies have created utilities for forwarding email to sms, all of which are more complex than my limited programming IQ can handle. here is a repository. So, has anyone developed a shareable script that can grab the first x characters of an email and forward to a cell phone? If so, please share? Thanks, TC
  10. Thomas, I redirect the spam from all accounts on a domain to a spambox, using filtering rules. Once there, a lucky user can cull through the messages to see if there are any that aren't actually spam. The people who are supposed to be checking those boxes aren't deleting messages, so the boxes are filling up. I've found a few scripts to handle this: - archivemail (very full-featured, but requires root to install) - trash_monkey (working with this one, but not behaving at the moment) - expire_spamboxes But none of them is as easy ot install as my limited bandwidth could handle. Thanks, Todd
  11. I'm concerned that in the header of every message sent from mailman to a list, there is an url for the mailing list -- actually two: subscribe and unsubscribe. This public html page gives people some opportunity to try to join a list that I would like to keep private. 1. Is there any way to remove this information from the default headers? Note: I am not talking about the HTML tags that are user-configurable, but rather the default header info about the lists that goes out in every email sent. Since this is a private list, and each member knows quite well how to unsubscribe, this info is not necessary -- and its inclusion in emails creates the opportunity for many people to try to join the list. 2. How can I use .htaccess (cpanel version...) to make the "public" mailman page for a list require username / password? Note that I would nomally use cpanel to do this, but... the html page associated with a list is somehow redirected in a way I don't understand -- the path to the right of the slash after my domain.com does not exist. Hence, there must be some global redirect at the server level?... Thanks! Todd
  12. I'm now sending all spam on my domains to a spambox (one for each domain). People are *supposed* to check and delete email from this box, but no one does, really. Since no one is deleting mail in these boxes, it is piling up -- 8000 messages in one such box. Can anyone recommend a script or utility that can automatically (cron job) delete spam that is older than n days? I've seen archivemail at sourceforge, but haven't read much on it. If no one has suggestions, this may be my next experiment. Thanks, Todd
  13. Andy, I had meant to do so, but neglected. Here are the headers. Some interesting things: 1. I put a weight of 4 on Bayes99, so I'm surprised that this message only gets to 4.2 points in total. 2. DRUGS_ERECTILE is not a standard SpamAssassin 3.x test -- see http://spamassassin.apache.org/tests_3_0_x.html. Is this a home-rolled test? 3. Notice that none of my tests (above) is referenced in the header. Reinforces my point #1 in my initial post. 14. Here's one that should have been totally knocked out by the rules... >Hi there, Try our revolutionary product, C_I_A_L_I_S Soft Tabs. New improved formula makes it even better. Order our Tadalafil pills today and save 80%. We ship worldwide, and currently supply to over 1 million customers globally! We always strive to bring you the cheapest prices. No thanks: http://bulwarking.com/rr.php I realize that the rules I picked are overlapping (above) -- that was intentional, and probably a little overkill... By my scoring, this message should have had a tally of 28 on the standard rules alone, not including Bayes scoring. In addition, my over-the-top user rules would have put it even higher. However, this message got through... Very perplexing
  15. Gang, I've got 3 probs with spamassassin and as a reseller, a lot of complaints about spam... 1. I added a bunch of tests from the spamassassin manual, with my own weights to scores. It looks like some of these tests are not being run at all. >required_score 5.5 rewrite_header subject *****SPAM***** ok_locales en ok_languages en use_terse_report 0 score RCVD_IN_NJABL_RELAY 2 score RCVD_IN_SBL 2 score DRUG_ED_CAPS 4 score DRUG_ED_COMBO 4 score DRUG_ED_ONLINE 4 score DRUG_ED_SILD 4 score ONLINE_PHARMACY 4 score VIA_GAP_GRA 4 score SUBJECT_DRUG_GAP_VA 4 score DATE_IN_PAST_96_XX 4 score DATE_IN_PAST_06_12 2 score DATE_IN_FUTURE_96_XX 4 score DATE_IN_FUTURE_03_06 2 score ADDRESS_IN_SUBJECT 2 score HTML_MESSAGE 1 score BODY_ENHANCEMENT 3 score MORTGAGE_PITCH 3 score NOT_ADVISOR 3 score STOCK_ALERT 3 score STOCK_PICK 3 score SOME_BREAKTHROUGH 3 score UNIVERSITY_DIPLOMAS 4 score STRONG_BUY 4 score BAYES_95 3 score BAYES_99 4 I wonder if there isn't a master (server) set of rules, and when I happen to indicate a different scoring for a rule that IS on both my list and the server list of rules, that weighting is applied. However, if a rule is not on the server list, it is simply not run. 2. User tests. One mod gave us some code to insert in .userprefs to kill german hate spam. Another mod sez no user tests. I've tried to insert the famous "chickenpox" spam test, but it doesn't appear to be working. Furthermore, I've added simple tests just to screen for words **** and cialis. These aren't being called at all. Here are the simple ones... >body VIAGRA_WORD /\bVIAGRA\b/i score VIAGRA_WORD 2 describe VIAGRA_WORD this just adds fuel to the fire body CIALIS_WORD /\bCIALIS\b/i score CIALIS_WORD 2 describe CIALIS_WORD this just ramps up the score body AEROFOAM /\baerofoam\b/i score AEROFOAM 5 describe AEROFOAM these jokers must die body PHARM_WORD /\bPHARMACY\b/i score PHARM_WORD 2 describe PHARM_WORD a little more fuel, but i hope not enough to sink walgreens 3. Full reports -- I've turned off terse reports, but I'm not getting full reports, indicating all the tests that were run and the outcome. I've looked at the MAN pages. Any thoughts on this? Thanks! TC
  16. Bruce, I don't believe this is the case. Please review this link (another TCH moderator created a ruleset for people to insert). http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...19691&hl=german Please advise -- and thanks, TC
  17. Well, so much for my theory... .didn't work at all. TC
  18. Appreciate the code, but.... If you never get email in German, I *think* you can just add: >ok_languages en to your user_prefs file and it will tag the email as spam. I'm going to try it overnight, at least, and see what happens.
  19. I'm being inundated with German spam. SpamAssassin has a variable "ok_language" that can be used to filter/score. Any chance you guys could add it to the cPanel SpamAssassin form -- just as ok_locales is? Or is there another way to specify this (config file or some such)? Much obliged, Todd
  20. I've been trying to get ASK to work, as it is the less involved to set up. And, well, it hasn't been easy. Looks like it might require python 2.2 (I think we're at 1.51?). And then it looks like our Cpanel puts forwarding addresses in a different place than other veersions of Cpanel (or I just can't find a football in a bucket). So anyone else wanna help try one of these out? Where's Rayners when you need him?.... Darq, these work at the server level, so they'd screen out your spam before you hit send/receive in Outlook. And email from distant relatives. But only the latter will bother taking the extra step to confirm so to get their message through. See mailblocks.com for a good explanation of a similar server-based solution. I'm trying to use some freeware to do same kind of thing here on the TCH servers. TC
  21. Raul, At a minimum, one would need ssh access to install these. I have that, but not everyone does... I agree, though: it would be ideal to have these installed on TCH servers! Very configurable AND it would reduce bandwidth for TCH and their users as only whitelist email would be downloaded! Might even save us both money. Thanks, TC
  22. Is it possible (for us or for TCH) to install one of the open-source challenge/response tools out there for better spam control? Three options: - TMDA - Active Spam KillerActive Spam Killer - TMDA Plugin for Squirrel Mail (note, the folks at sqmail say: TMDA is the best spam-gate available!) These are user configurable, widely supported and *work*. thoughts? Thanks
  23. My advice is to be very careful with the wording that you choose to enter in the field for your filter. If that text appears anywhere in the subject of any email, it will discard it. I certainly wouldn't use a filter containing the word funny for example. I get plenty of mail from my sister that she claims is funny. While I don't think they are necessarily, , I still don't want to lose the mail. See? Any other questions, just ask. I think the filters are case sensitive, which is sorta a pain. Granted, it is not nearly so much of a pain as the attempts at avoiding word filters, a la vi.ag.r.a or v1agra. etc.
