Yes, it's set to ip automatic but comes up empty the problem pc is the main one. I checked the workgroups and it only lists my pc now. it used to show the "dove hill" workgroup but doesn't now. could I setup the workgroup again? why does this pc go through the router anyway? just grabbing the dsl signal? when I try to view workgroups on this pc it hangs and quits responding maybe I need to try resetting a workgroup????

when i tell it: ipconfig /renew i get: an error occured while renewinginterface local area connection 8: the system cannot find the file specified. cannot find local area connection 8 ? my control panel says its there. something had to go amiss when I installed eztrust over AVG. but I can't find it to change it back or whatever happened. the frontiernet techie said he could do no more it was a software thing. this pc i'm using connects to the router on mine. did it lock the necessary port or something? and how do I check that. I'm thinking this cant be that big a deal. but I'm missing something.

I actually had a frontiernet.net techie on the phone quite some time yesterday. we pinged the router ok. we did the ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew all of them. nadda.

all settings are on autodetect, like always, but they aren't detecting? port closed or something like that???

When I run ipconfig everything matches the other machine except the main pc has no ip address and no subnet mask. I'm thinking that something is blocking something??? aarrrrgghh!

Well I still can't get the main pc to see the internet. I tried repairing the network connection under lan or high speed internet and I get this message: the following steps of the repair operation failed: renewing ip address refreshing all DHCP leases and re-registering names What am I missing here? thanks in adbvance for any help. I agree with you, Raul, about the system restore.

Madman, youneverknow, and tch mike..............thanks. I think Mike is right about the 2 antiviruses, and eztrust DID have me uninstall norton first, which I did and tried the install again. It didn't care about AVG and installed. I had been running avg and norton together for a year. Anyway I have to head out for now but looks like its not getting an ip address or something. Rock Sign

Hey thanks you guys. I have been completely down since that post. I had system restore turned off to get a trojan and didn't have it back on yet. Now I have the dsl bypassing my pc and the router straight into the other workstation. And it's working. But the dsl directly into main pc won't connect. Even when I put ip address in manually.

Also, when AVG tries to run all I get is: driver (core) not found winerr=2

Ok. I installed eztrust antivirus to try it. also it's firewall. I have xp home and my wife's pc gets the internet via my router and dsl. Right away I began having problems with connection after installing ez progs. I uninstalled them. Now I cant get on the internet and I cannot access my wifes pc from mine any longer either. It no longer shows me workgroup computers However, as we see here, I can access the internet with hers. Any suggestions?

If your user name is say... goldie, then you have to use goldie@yoursite.com as the login. I know I forgot that. my login was "free" and that is all I put. Remembered that I had to login as: free@mysite.com hope that helps. Also are you using something like WS-FTP, CUTE FTP, or some other ftp software?

Yep. I've been an avid AVGer for quite some time. Been running Norton w/it but Norton is running out. Don't see the need to renew at this time. AVG is just fine. I mentioned it in a forum somewhere the other day and they had changed my email addresses by inserting a : 3d in front of everyones actual username, like 3dme@mysite.com Mad!!! Mad!!! of course my antivirus slapped it to sleep. heh heh . ( er.. this time anyway )

Yea, I did setup in cpanel. Don, in my ftp accounts it's listed as: free@mysite.com (freebies) like that. should I rename the folder to just : free

way cool I've used most of the ones mentioned. I tried ACEHTML KIT, then decided to try a "higher up" sort of creator, that's why I got a hold of CUTEHTML PRO. When it opened. Lo & behold.......... it looks just like acehtml kit ??????????????

I almost got there. I set it to : ftp.mysite.com then down below ( in wsftp ) I entered the account name blah@mysite.com and I got "pass hidden" and wsftp quit

here to show my lack of knowledge again: I set up a folder under my public_html called "freebies". I created an ftp account: free@mysite.com The idea is to let friends go there and download things like spyblaster, etc rather than emailing attachments. ( ..and maybe I should be doing it another way thats better, not sure ) but what goes into the wsftp ( i.e.) for the hookup? ftp.mysite.com/freebies ???? ( i already know that didn't work, but nothing else did either) thanks in advance
