Fantastico doesn't install anything into the root (public_html) folder. It always wants you to create a subdomain or folder to do the installation.

I don't think it's possible using Fantastico. You would have to install it manually. But someone else may have an idea. Moving the contents of the folder you create the installation in is an option. The database will not change but internal paths in the database will need changing. As well as configuration files.

In the upper left corner, select Settings. Check the box to Disable Character Encoding Verification Dialogs. This is in both new and Legacy file manager.
