  1. Ok... I think this has to do with Norton Internet Security. I just turned OFF the Ad Blocker and all those images showed. So I went to CONFIGURE and added my domain name to the allowed list and tried again.... still can't see the images. Does anyone know if I have to put the specific URLS for all the images I want to see? How annoying!
  2. Maybe someone here can help... I'm at my wits end with this issue I am having. I am having a strange issue with images not showing when I browse the web. It started a few months back and is getting more and more troublesome. I have tried using different brwwsers (Opera, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, IE6, Navigator) and it is not a browser dependent issue. Some images are not showing up on my sites and other sites around the net. Can you guys see these banners (theres 3): I know the images are there in the code, they are just not displaying in the browser window. For example: http://www.natalie-brown.com/community.htm There are two single covers (images) there that do not show up. If you scroll to where it says "Click Image To Download The MP3".. there are 250X250 images there that aren't showing up for me. Can you see them? Also on: http://www.natalie-brown.com/links.htm There are supposed to be a bunch of banners there and the only one that shows up is the Psychadelic Sheep one. They are there in the code, but not showing in the browser. Also: http://www.download.com/nataliebrown/ My image doesn't show up. Actually, on that site, none of the larger artist images show for me. This one doesn't work in any browser I've tried. I sent Download.com a trouble ticket, but so far no answer. Can you see the image? What do you think the problem could be on my end? These images DO show when I check them on my roomates IE6 Windows XP machine. I have tried checking them on my machine using Mozilla 1.4, Mozilla Firefox, Opera 7, Netscape Navigator 7.1 and IE 6 and they do not show. All the other images show for me tho. I have no idea why this is happening. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening. It's not all images, just random ones. I'm using Windows 98 SE with IE 6 as the default browser. I'm running a Pentium II, 256MB RAM, resolution is 1024 x 768, Radeon 7500 Graphics Card and I'm on a cable modem. I always delete cache, temp files, browser history, cookies etc. Nothing seems to fix this problem. The only system change that has happened for me in the last few months is that I switched from Dial-Up to Cable Modem... I am networked to my roomate's computer thru a LynkSys Box via an Ethernet Cable. I did upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2004 a well. Thanks for any help or insight you can give. Nat
  3. Hee Hee.. OK thanks for making me feel better. We all make messes Nat
  4. Dick, I'll give that a try. The new stylesheets I made in DW 4 because for some strange reason the sheets I have made in TS Pro are not working. Still trying to muddle thru all this. BTW... is there a banner showing up in my signature. I am having a terrible time viewing some graphics on my system... all of a sudden they just aren't showing up... same with some Java Scripting functions. The beast is dying..... LOL
  5. Nat, unless you are running a Mac you can't use BBEdit. I found that out last nite. Plus I'm running Win 98SE still. Still trying to scrape up for a new computer. Argh! Plus, I like Dreamweaver for the sites I do. Web Design is not my main trade, so I guess I take a different approach than many hard core designers do who code by hand. I just do the sites I need to and some pro-bono work. I started off doing more Graphics type stuff and learned as I went out of need. I still feel more comfortable in front of a Microphone than any computer any day! LOL
  6. Brian, Thanks for all that info. It is a really frustrating task to make the designs as resolution friendly as possible for all people that may visit the site. I have the design at 750 wide now. I may have to sacrafice some of those who are using the 640 x 480 resolutions. But since the target market for this site is North American I think it should be OK as I think most people use at least 800 x 600. The current design has worked with no complaints, but this Organization is going to be doing an advertising push this summer and I wanted to break the design out of frames and also make the design smaller for them to reach more potential members. Hopefully the new design will work well. Thanks again. Nat
  7. Guys- what do you think is the best approach? Should I re-design for 800X600 or just leave the design at 1024x768? Seems it's almost a 50/50 split for these two browsers. Also, my screen res is 1024x768, so would I have to change my screen res when I design to make sure it all displays right? Thanks for the pointers.
  8. Cool. Thanks Rob. Sorry for posting it in the wrong spot! Argh!
  9. Is anyone here a member of MySpace.com? I just found it the other day and it is really cool. They have a network of people from all over the world and you can set up your own little spot there, upload pics, music, blog... all kinds of neat stuff. If anyone has a profile there, let me know so I can add you to my friends list. It's a free thing... really neat... I have met lots of interesting people from all over the world Check it out http://www.myspace.com my page is at http://www.myspace.com/nataliebrown
  10. Ahhh Don Thanks for all that info. I am thinking percentages are a better way for the tables. Gonna tweak some more. Thanks, Nat
  11. Thanks for the BBEdit reccomendation... will look into that
  12. Thanks Dick... will click the big ?
  13. Ok... here's a screenshot of the layout in Dreamweaver. As you can see, the layer properties are there. Does anyone here know if I can tweak some of these settings to get that nav bar layer to represent within the bounds of the graphic frames but to the right, in the layout? I have no idea what a Z-index is... and some of those other variables are greek to me. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
  14. The site is mostly done in tables. The only CSS is text. I used Dreamweaver to make that layer that the navigation bar is in. I wish I knew how to make it stay to the right a bit more in the larger resolution. For those of you with 800X600... is the layout at least functional?
  15. Bruce, Thanks for attaching that screen shot. It helps for me to see how you're seeing it! Is there any way I can make that navigation layer stay to the right a bit more and still have it work on most resolutions? Thanks, Nat
  16. That was my worry. I'm using 1024X768 resolution to design. From the stats I read, 1024 X 768 was the more common resolution nowadays, but most stats seem to be erroneous! I am not sure what to do. Can you at least see the main table with the navigation and text OK? I made that main table 800pixels wide. The background is a scanline pattern. I thought that perhaps the table would center in 800X600 resolutions and you could still see everything. What would be the best way to ensure that most resolutions can see the design? Thanks, Nat
  17. Jim, Ha Ha... yeah I've been a bizzy girl with the two new singles and still trying to beef up my design knowledge. I love the challenge! Thanks for the feedback. The links don't work because I am still tweaking the main template page that I will be using for the entire site. I gotta make sure the design works first before I change all the pages over. About that absolute positioning.... is there a way to make that navigation layer work for your resolution by tweaking the code some? Should I make the position relative? What would be the best declaration for this to work on all resolutions? As for the text... I did put the text in a table that is 697pixels wide. Would changing that table to 80% be a more cross resolutin and browser friendly way to go? I've just changed it to 87%.... see if that makes a difference? http://www.indiemanagers.com/new_site/layout.htm Thanks for the help. You guys all rawk so much! Nat
  18. UPDATE: JUNE 14th Ok, so I redid the design so it's 750px wide and I removed the pattern background-not as cool looking, but I think more cross resolution friendly? Can you guys with 800 x 600 resolutions check it to see if it works for you now. Also, those with larger than 1024 x 768 resolutions, how is that navigation layer looking now? I've also made the main table 'default' instead of center positioning it. http://www.indiemanagers.com/new_site/layout.htm Thanks a million-zillion Nat Hi Gang, Working on a re-design of a site and I was wondering if you could check the URL and report back any broken images or layout funkiness. The new layout is at this URL: http://www.indiemanagers.com/new_site/layout.htm If you could tell me what browser and version you are using, that would be very helpful. Thanks, Nat
  19. Kasey, No worries at all. I am just thankful for your help! Ok... so I did a bunch of tweaking today and decided to slice the layout differently. The very top of the logo still doesn't meet up ecactly with the layout background scan lines, but to me it's passable. http://www.indiemanagers.com/new_site/layout.htm How does it look to you? So far, the only real buggy thing starts to happen when you zoom the text to 200+ Percent, but that is only affecting the bottom slice. I decided to slice the sides very wide... in fact I did the slice all the way accross the design and then added in another table for the text and that seems to work very well. I changed the CSS Text declaration to 10 pixels instead of "x-small" as I read somewhere that it's better to do that. As far as Top Style goes, it basically leads you through a wizard for a basic sheet and then you can go thru a list and add other declarations in and specify sizes, colors etc. It helps you do the code, then you save the style sheet and you are supposed to just be able to save it to your styles directory and then attach it to whatever page you want it on etc. It's a great program, not quite sure why it's not working for me. I just got it, so I am still learning. I thought to make a style sheet global you just had to add to the HEAD the link to the style sheet? For some reason this isn't working like I thought it would, esp. in IE6. That font just doesn't look right to me. It's supposed to be 10 pixels and Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif. It's the right font, but not the right size- to me anyway. Not sure if it has something to do with my browser settings. Thanks for the pointers on the TEMP folder. I will go thru it. I was under the impression that Clean Sweep was supposed to clean all this junk out... guess not! LOL Hope you're recovering from your work stuff. I really appreciate your help on this. I have so much to learn and TCH and the people here have helped me so much in my learning process. Thanks, Nat
  20. One thing I've noticed in IE and Navigator is that if you set the Text Size to Larger or Largest (or zoom as in Netscape's case), it throws the whole design off. See IE 6 > VIEW > Text Size. If the text size is on Medium or the smaller ones, it's fine. I'm wondering if this sliced layout type approach is just not cross-browser friendly? Perhaps I should just use a stroked table and not mess with anything fancy. This design needs to be as friendly as possible, and so far it's not proving to be that way. The reason I went with this sliced JPG as background method is because I wanted the RIGHT and LEFT Border frames to extend as text was added. If I had just done a regular export from Fireworks to DW, then the two side borders would stay at a static height, and I need there to be a lot of space for text on some pages, and little space for others. Is there a better way to tackle this design idea? Any suggestions? Thanks, Nat
  21. k- so I tried deleting the Top Style Sheet I designed and I defined one from within Dreamweavers CSS properties box. That seems to work in Netscape, but IE is still not working. Geez.... this is some strange stuff! EDIT: OK so it seems now that the style sheet I created in DW is working. Tho, it's not exactly what I wanted. Any ideas why the Top Style Pro 3 one wouldn't work?
  22. Oh and when I delete temp files... I also do FIND FILES > *.tmp > and then I manually delete all that I find. Is there a better way? Can I safeley delete all the contents of C:\WINDOWS\TEMP ? Thanks, Nat
  23. Hmmmm... the CSS is still not working. I even tried selecting the text I want the CSS applied to and then in the CSS Properties Box selectiong the arrow "Apply Style Sheet". Doesn't work. http://www.indiemanagers.com/new_site/layout.htm The CSS code looks like this in Top Style Pro 3: Ha Ha.... I think I've bitten off more than I can chew with this re-design. woooot Nat
  24. I've got nothing protecting images at all in cPanel. Yup.. Win 98SE... What directory should I go to in File Explorer to delete the Temp Internet files. I also use McAfee Clean Sweep to delete Temp files. It is so strange. Just ran both an AVG and Norton Anti-Virus Sweep the other day and all was clean. Could it be my video card is dying? I just have no clue. It only happens to certian images. Oh well, as long as I know they're there. This system I am using is getting really bad. Can't wait to get a new computer! I have been adjusting the layout. The canlines are the same. No change there. I do notice that they look different at different image resolutions tho. The lines are 1px alternating lines. I will try what you suggested with the style sheet. Thanks a million Kasey! Nat
  25. Kasey, Good to see ya! Ok... moving that background code down to the column section worked, but now the scanlines aren't meeting up (when I view in IE6). I may have to recut the layout. I'm not sure what the best way is for all the lines to meet up. http://www.indiemanagers.com/new_site/layout.htm The strange thing is that this image problem has been happening to me a lot lately on various websites. I know the images are there in the code, they are just not displaying in the browser window. For example: http://www.natalie-brown.com/community.htm There are two single covers (images) there that do not show up. I have no idea why this is happening. I can't for the life of me figure out why this just started happening. It sometimes goes away, but generally happens for weeks at a time. I first noticed it about 3 months ago. I'm using Windows 98 SE with IE 6 as the default browser. I always delete cache, temp files, browser history, cookies etc. Nothing works. Now for the other problem. I designed a CSS Style sheet in Top Style Pro 3 and tried to attach it to the layout using Dreamweaver 4. It doesn't show up in the CSS inspector as 'attached', but when I view the code, it is there. I made the stylesheet relative to the document. Should I have made it relative to the root? It's not working on any of the browsers. I'm confused! Thanks, Nat
