  1. DWD, Thanks for linking to your site. That is the sort of thing I would like to do. Are you using CSS DIV tags to include your navigation? I didn't look at the code to see how the layout is set up. I see you use Movable Type. How easy was that to install and use. I am considering using that but I also found another CMS called Nucleus CMS nucleuscms.org. I may look into that one since it is free to use even for commercial sites. I am still looking in to how to accomplish the kind of design I referenced above. I really think I am going to have to forego a table layout and learn DIV Tags once and for all! Thanks for all the input Bruce and DWD. Would I contact Tech support to find out if I am allowed to install Nucleus CMS on TCH servers?
  2. Bruce, How do you install this blog type thing within an existing web site? I thought a blog was a straight blog? How do you just use bits of a blog type interface wherever you want them? If you look at the rest of the site, it's just regular XHTML/CSS pages. Only the news bits on the home page and the actual news articles use this blog type feature. I'd love to know how to do this! Sorry for totally not expressing myself well on this subject! LOL
  3. Hey gang, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how this site: www.adamaworld.com was able to get their news parsed with that [Full Story] link going to it's own page within the design (/news/entry?id=2) Is this a script or something that I need to install? I'd love to be able to do this on a new design I am working on. If you know how to do this, can you please PM me or leave me links to info. Thanks
  4. Hey Rob, No worries. Sometimes you have to act fast to protect your clients and that was the case this time. I appreciate you looking out for us and protecting us from vulnerabilities. The cool thing is that we can just come over here and ask questions and tech support is always really fast. You are appreciated!
  5. TCH does rawk... but it would have been nice to know that curl was going to be disabled ahead of time.
  6. David and Mike Thanks so much for your suggestions. I emailed Alex over at CGI Central and he told me he set cron to be executed from his server. I am waiting to see if the cron is executed without an error, but I won't know until midnight tonight if it does indeed work. I am going to save all your info in case the cron fails and I have to do one of these alternatives. Very thankful for your suggestions and help! I was freaking out a bit when this all went down.... Thanks guys!
  7. Hey gang, Hoping someone can help me out! Back in March I installed the aMember script on one of my domains. I had a tough time setting up the CRON job as most of the code lines provided to me by aMember didn't work. Finally I got the right line wich was: curl -s http://your-TCH-domain.com/amember/cron.php The other day I started to get messages from the server saying: /bin/sh: line 1: /usr/bin/curl: Permission denied I put in a trouble ticket and was told that CURL was disabled on the shared servers for security. The tech assistant kindly reconfigured the cron job to work with php. This morning I got another email from the server stating: Cannot create license: unknown TLD for domain: i I will be honest, I haven't the slightest idea how to make this work. I emailed Alex over at CGI Central (the author of the scripts) and he told me that it was my host that blocked access to curl and that I should forward the error message that I got to host support and ask to fix that error. Now of course it turns out Curl is disabled now, so I have no idea how to fix this problem. Any ideas? Thanks so much PS: just for reference, the following are the lines that are suggested in the aMember manual.... none of them worked upon initial install of the script. /usr/bin/curl -s http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php'>http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php'>http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php'>http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php'>http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php /usr/bin/wget -o/dev/null -O- http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php /usr/local/bin/lynx -source http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php /usr/local/bin/curl -s http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php /usr/local/bin/wget -o/dev/null -O- http://yoursite.com/amember/cron.php
  8. Thanks David. Yeah I was a bit confused about the correct path... but got it figured out. Hope you are doing great!
  9. Ok.. I fixed it. I did need to create the directory and I had the FTP path wrong. It should have been: public_html/polyphonicjourney Hope this info helps someone else!
  10. Also, not sure if this helps. I didn't create the directory "polyphonicjourney" before I made the blog and I can't seem to find the directory on my server. Should I create this directory in the public_html directory?
  11. Hi! Just set up a blog at Blogger.com but hosting it on my TCH account. I have set it up, but for some reason the blog is not showing. Can someone check my settings and tell me where I might have gone wrong? The following are my settings (actual domain name changed) FTP Server: ftp.mydomainname.com Blog URL: http://www.mydomainname.com/polyphonicjourney/ FTP Path: /home/cpanelusername/www/public_html/ Blog Filename: index.html When I publish the blog, it publishes successfully, but then when I "View Blog" it goes to an error 404 page. Is it possible that I have the FTP Path wrong? In the setup notes they say it should be something like: /www/public_html/ When I emailed TCH support they said the FTP Path for my server is /home/cpanelusername What should I have put? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. If you want the actual URL to the blog, please PM me. Thanks
  12. Yup I ended up getting Nero and the files burned fine. I wonder why EZ CD Creator didn't work? Anyway... got it all working. Thanks to everyone for the help.
  13. Jim, That link was excellent. Much better than any of the stuff I perused yesterday. Now I am beginning to wonder if this BIN file just may be corrupt. A friend of mine has an aquaintance that is working on developing a new tour accounting software package and he burned these files for my friend who in turn burned the zip file for me. I wonder if something got messed up. Will keep playing till I get it right! Thanks
  14. Hey Raul, Yes I did decompress the zip. I double clicked the cue file to load it up and it said the file was not recognized. So these files can be for CD ROM or DVD? How would I know what file belongs on a DVD and what would belong on a CD ROM? TI thought for sure I needed to have a DVD burner or something. Hopefully I can get this working.
  15. Hey Jim! Thanks for the link!
  16. I was wondering if someone can tell me if BIN and CUE files are to be burned to a CD ROM or a DVD? I am familiar with ISO files and how they work, but I have this CD ROM with a zip file on it and it says BIN and CUE and I have no idea how to burn them to make a working CD where I can install the program. I read up on this and it says you have to have NERO 6 to load in the CUE file and then it burns the disk. I don't have Nero, I have ROXIO EZ CD and DVD Creator. For some reason this program does not even know what do to with the CUE or BIN file. I don't have a DVD burner on my computer, but maybe I can use a friend's system. Can anyone tell me if these BIN and CUE files are specifically for DVD based programs or maybe point me in the right direction? Or am I totally off and is this kind of file for MAC computers? I am running a Windows PC. Thanks
  17. Congrats Kris! Get ready to wear your *best* spitup duds! Whoooo hoooo! Hope that you enjoy every moment of this special little life! Nat
  18. If it's my image, then what could be wrong with it? I'm not understanding. The box isn't crooked when I look at it in Fireworks. Strange, i will keep looking to see what it is. Thanks again for showing me the concept.
  19. Jack, Thanks for doing that. I grabbed the page and the codes here, so if you want to take it down it's cool. One one thing- do you see a 1 pixel shift of the RIGHT Text box? I am seeing a one pixel shift using Firefox (latest version) and it makes the box off just slightly. I haven't checked it in IE yet tho. Any way for me to fix that? Thanks a zillion.
  20. Just FYI, below are links to the PNG files for the layout in question, so you can see what I am dealing with: 1. Index Page h**p://www.natfunkmusic.com/mbstia/Layout/png_files/mbstia_index.png 2. Sub-Page h**p://www.natfunkmusic.com/mbstia/Layout/png_files/mbstia_main.png
  21. The effect you seem to be working toward has a fairly standard solution. Create your header as a stand alone unit. Create your footer as a stand alone unit. Then create a table to hold the content in between. The table will expand to any size you need and can easily be made to show exactly what you have there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Lee, I am not sure that scenario would work for the design in question: I've laid out the whole thing in Photoshop > brought it in to Fireworks and added in rollovers etc. Then it is all sliced up there an exported to Dreamweaver. I am pretty new to this kind of design strategy tho and if there is a way I can do what you suggest, I am all ears. What I have done in the design is to make that big center white part a chunk of gif that I can remove to leave me the table to fill with a white background color. There are slices on either side and top and bottom that need to stay there so that the drop shadows and other design elements show. Hope that makes sense. Attached is the PNG file of the page in question. The attachment seems to have errors: here is a proper link to it: 1. Index Page h**p://www.natfunkmusic.com/mbstia/Layout/png_files/mbstia_index.png 2. Sub-Page h**p://www.natfunkmusic.com/mbstia/Layout/png_files/mbstia_main.png Hope this helps you see what I am trying to achieve.
  22. owatagal: Check your PM's. Thanks for the link.
  23. I've been battling this issue for a bit now. Can you guys read this post and give some input? http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...showtopic=19148 How do you keep the graphic design element in tact but still make a way to insert a lot of text content if needed? The reason I went with iFrames for my latest design is because there is about a 3000 character limit to how much text I can put into my page. I wanted the option of using an iFrame if there was more text, but I am just getting a lot of people saying not to do this. I have no idea how to make the graphic element so that it can stretch out when more text is added without the design being broken up. I don't mind if some of the content can't be bookmarked, so I thought an iFrame would be OK. Any suggestions?
  24. Ok... working on a new design and I had planned to go with iFrames. But have had a lot of people give their opinion on the use of scrollers and iFrames... all of it saying not to go there... This is the test URL of the design in question: http://www.natfunkmusic.com/mbstia/test_scroll.htm There may be some glitches when using Firefox (the design breaks up some and for some reason the scroll action is not working when I test it- I am still tweaking things) Someone said to me on another forum: What I don't understand is how to accomplish this. Someone said to do the following: I guess what I am not grasping is how to keep the graphic design element as it is and have that much text fit in without breaking up the design. I have no idea how to add in a cell on either side of the content cell. I have the layout in Fireworks right now and it is sliced up in there and exported to Dreamweaver. The reason I went with the iFrame in the first place was to maintain the graphic design element but allow for a lot of text via the scrolling iFrame if needed. Can someone help me with this concept of stretching and point me to some tutorials or resources so I can learn about it? Thanks PS If you want me to email you the PNG file, just PM me your email address and I'll send it along.
