  1. And don't for get the all-important field on the form to specify type of dream by clicking a smilie - fright/nightmare (ie being chased by ???) - relaxation (ie chilling out on a paradise island with waves laping your feet) - at a concert, play, or taking part in a tv/movie - romantic/sexy interlude (no comments here) Naughty - warrier/action (think the Indiana Jones movies) - worry wart (stressed out) - funny, waking up laughing woooot - no dream, just solid sleep, dead out - other -Samantha
  2. Welcome to the family....There's no place like home so don't bother looking! And contrary to Thomas's post, only a few of us are crazy. -Samantha
  3. Thanks for the lovely unexpected compliments. You did a very nice job Nablusi! Thumbs Up I like your little computer guy -Samantha
  4. Thanks Nablusi. Once I got the format down to something I liked, I use the same concept (different colors, sounds and images) for several sites. Yes Thomas, in CSB the page was created quickly and easily. The 404 and the thankyou/link pages are in my main tlx file and publishes to my public_html folder. Page Properties settings: Short Title = 404 Page extension = shtml I used insert HTML for these codes: 1) My images are placed into the page using a CODE rather than using insert picture feature <IMG SRC="http://domainname.com/imagename.jpg" border=0 width="128" height="88" ALT="site logo"> 2) I have a sound embedded in the page: <embed src="http://domainname.com/soundname.wav" autostart="true" hidden="true"> 3) a scrollbar style code (you know what those look like...if you need one take a look at my iframe instructions for the code) 4) I wanted the visitor to see the page that had the error so used this code in a table at the top of the page: <!--#echo var="REQUEST_URI" --> 5) Form code as noted in my previous post to submit the error notification. When you click, the form takes you to another page (errorthanks.htm) with a thank you and additional links. On one site, I have the form take you to a site map with all sections of the site listed. The code snippets that return info (echo...) were recommended by other TCH folks in a 404 page topic and used to be posted at the beginning of one of the forums as a pinned topic. Don't know if the thread is still pinned or not. Was really quite a useful topic thread! Will need to take a look at Don's post a little closer. More php to play with. -Samantha
  5. My 404 uses a couple on-screen notes to the visitor, and with a tap bar to send the error to me. I get people to click the bar by offering another page with alternative links that might be working. I also monitor AWSTATS for 404 notes. This is the code I use on my 404 page that you can try here: (paste URL into your browser) www.samisite.com/test404.htm Place this where you want to DISPLAY the page the visitor was requesting" Set up an email form with your regular form processing header following this type of format. Note that YOUR form processing header would point to the code that you use. If you process your own mail, it would point to the PHP or CGI script on the TCH server. If you use a 3rd party processing like cutandpastescripts.com, it would point to their server. Take a look at the coding you have used on other forms on your site and copy the header section. Then I use this as my BODY of the email: And I made my tap bar request their assistance: -Samantha
  6. Thanks Bruce. I pray you are correct. Steve, I finally went on vacation this year to the Florida Keys only to get chased out by Frances evacuation. I am extremely fortunate that my home stands intact, my computer was not damaged, and the business I work for is still intact (now with power). But still, I am SO over this weather! -Samantha
  7. On Friday at work someone started the "Mahna Mahna" (sounds like "phenomena") song from the muppets. This song has stuck with me the ENTIRE weekend! Chorus: Mahna Mahna Do doo be-do-do Mahna Mahna Do do-do do Mahna Mahna Do doo be-do-do be-do-do be-do-do be-do-do-doodle do do do-doo do! Here's a strange version of the song...original sound but different characters... www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/mahnamahna.php -Samantha
  8. Hi folks~ Spent the entire weekend inside. Jeanne took a long time to arrive and to leave. Her feeder bands just kept coming. First from the southeast, then from the west and finally from the northwest. Took more than 24 hours for all the feeder bands to finally clear the area! Of the three storms, she was the worst for me. I may not be able to save my favorite tree that is now wobbly, literally leaning and pushable. It's have a crepe myrtle that is 20"+ in diameter (LARGE for that type tree and 35-40 years old) that grows directly behind my house and can be seen ABOVE my home with wispy pink blossoms every year. The trunks of my 3 crepes are twisted sculptures that can be seen inside my screenroom and always surprise and delight visitors. May be able brace and refill roots since the are still grounded. If I lose it I will be heartbroken. After spending all day today dragging branches to the curb, I have a 4 foot tall, 4 ft wide, 80 foot long "hurricane hedge" (broken branches, twigs, trees etc to be picked up) along the front of my property. This is the second such hedge I have had to build. The one for Frances was picked up just days before Jeanne's strike. And I still have more to stack! Also pierced a leg on a massive branch that got vindictive. Have a bullseye around the puncture and will have a wonderful bruise in glorious colors. I did some minor repairs for damage to my house and put my screenroom to right again. Oh my aching back. But had a wonderful gift this evening....I got my power back on! A hot shower, air conditioning, and looking forward to nice fresh crisp sheets.... ah heavon on earth. Thumbs Up My mother just called and she also got her power tonight, but still has no TV. She has 2 sinkholes in her back yard. The larger one is 3 ft from the corner of the house. She didn't know it was there (grass was covering the hole) and fell in up to her knee. Once she moved the grass she exposed a hole that is several feet deep and wide! Arrangements are being made to excavate, fill with rocks, pebbles and dirt. So far no signs of growth, and no structural damage or threat. She lost 3 more VERY LARGE trees (6 total so far) in her woody area to the far back of the yard. BUT.... other than a screen porch roof that needs to be tightened again, she has no damage! YAY. My brother cam e through with flying colors. Most of the traffic lights are out, a ton of business signs blown out, roofs damaged, but not too many trees down this time. No power and flooding seem to be our worst problems this time around. My employer had no power today - great for me so I could work around home, but bad for business. Only have til November 30 for the season to end! I am SO OVER this! Hey Steve....... You said "Bring it on, mother nature!" And sure enough, instead of hooking back to the atlantic and going along the east coast, Jeanne changed directions and headed your way. Next time be careful what you ask for...you might just get it! LOL woooot Amazingly, Jeanne came ashore and followed Frances path identically for a long ways. What are the odds for that??? -Samantha (happy, safe and soo tired!)
  9. Steve.... HUSH! Move to another state, then you can dare mother nature. The rest of the residents of Florida are TIRED of it and do NOT want more. JEANNE IS MAKING HISTORY.....FIRST TIME EVER TO HAVE 4 HURRICANES HIT THE SAME STATE DURING ONE HURRICANE SEASON. Cat 3 storm is about 10mi offshore now so we will start to feel some of the rain and winds. Gotta shut down and unplug equipment. If I have power , I will post when I can after the storm has passed. Thanks for the good thoughts (except for Steve's dares ) and prayers. All needed and greatfully accepted. -Samantha
  10. Tammy, For CSB questions, post in the CSB forum or on the Globalscape board. Glad you decided to hang in for a bit. There is a HUGE difference for online builders vs CSB: Online builders you are STUCK with only one host. With CSB (as with other pc-based programs) you can change hosts at will, or work on a second website for someone else on a different host. NOTE: was NOT implying that you would want to leave TCH! Rock Sign Only that the online builders lock you in and when you want to move, you lose your site and your program and have to start over. We do have a wish list for CSB and some of the options you mentioned are already on the list. But whether Globalscape would consider the list if/when they update the product is unknown. --------------------- Nicolas, We do not disagree that standards are necessary. Several of us have said the same thing...sometimes TIME is the major decision factor not total compliance. If there were a program that wrote totally compliant code that was easy, fast, inexpensive to use we would probably all consider using it. But it does not exist. Well folks....this has been fun. But gotta shut down the computer and unplug all equipment. HURRICANE JEANNE (cat 3) will be starting to come ashore soon and we will begin to feel high winds and rain. The storm should angle just south of Orlando, putting us in the NE quadrant (dirtiest side of the storm with most winds and tornados). Don't want to lose my computer to a power surge. If I have power I will check the thread to view other posts tomorrow evening after the storm has passed. Say a prayer and wish me good luck and power! -Samantha
  11. How kind Bruce! Thank you. It's still a work in progress as they all are. It has been fun showing people that CSB/TRELLIX can make a decent, if imperfect, website if you want to put time and effort into some of the extras to dress them up. But if you don't want to do any "extras", I still help with some excellent resources and provide newbies instructions on basic tasks too. We ALL need a leg-up to get started. We don't all want to drive a NASCAR vehicle, or even a high-performance auto. Some of us are willing to drive an auto that is reliable, somewhat attractive and functional, but has its own little quirks. Naughty woooot Thumbs Up -Samantha
  12. Nicolas, Yes... I HAVE looked at my site and many others with different browsers. Quite a variance. Some pages more so than others. I accept that the VAST majority of the people (82.4 %) that visit that site use IE and view it the way it was intended. Even if that figure is not a TRUE number, it is still a large MAJORITY. I accept that some visitors with different browsers will not see it that way but will still have a functional site (with a few quirks perhaps). I use IE at work and Firefox quite a bit at home. I do not have the time to hand tweak all code to get it fully compliant. I reach for quality with a nod to limitations of time. I CHOOSE to accept a less than perfect site. Thumbs Up If I were required to only post a perfect site (code-wise), I would probably choose to remove the main content from my site. The site is based around CSB/Trellix assistance. Hand-coding the site would defeat the purpose of the tutorial site: to demonstrate that your CSB/Trellix site can be much more than plain generic template! I do have other webpages that ARE hand coded. They have other purposes. I am not offended or offput by your posts. I have been bitten by the coding bug, but do not suffer as strong a case as you. And that's ok with me. I may have partial immunity to it. Or who knows...maybe it just needs incubation time and eventually my posts will sound like yours! woooot (chuckling as I hit post) -Samantha
  13. Hey Curtis.... Could you make the tables the SAME, format-wise so the comparison is truly accurate? And would LOVE to see the same tables done in FrontPage too! Yes, hand coding can be fun, and will definitely make the code trimmer. There's a real sense of accomplishment when you upload it and open the browser to YOUR code and it looks the way you intended! Been there done that using CuteHTML Pro so I understand Nicholas hugging his site with pride. But some folks do not have the inclination to learn code, others don't have a logical mindset so can not comprehend code no matter how much you explain, and others just don't have the time to work with it and choose to put devote the little time they have towards images or other content. For those folks a program that produces HTML (like CSB and many others) is a joy to work with. CSB and others like it definitely have limits. But for some uses, some people those limits are not a problem. For some people, those limits help to make the program easier to use/understand. -Samantha
  14. EXACTLY Lisa! Thumbs Up If you get tied up with "finishing" your site before you publish, or trying to match every browser, or only use codes to current standards (which change), or worrying so much about the dotted i's and crossed t's, you lose sight of why you wanted to build the site in the first place. Someone that is a code purist, fussy about the HTML coding being EXACTLY correct (Nicolas, I put you in this category), has a different need than someone that only doesn't care about the code, just the end result. For someone that has no wish to delve deeply into the CODE of the page, CSB can be a joy to work with. People are not wired the same. That's why editors and builders come with so many different options/abilites. The key is to find a program that fits YOU and YOUR needs and makes the adventure of building/maintaining a site fun/challenging, not a chore. Nicolas, I agree it's important to know that standards exist and that conventions change as new technology is applied to the internet (ie websafe colors are no longer a big deal....used to be a standard). But recognize that you have been bitten by the CODE bug! Some folks will NEVER see that bug let alone get bitten because they won't have the INTEREST in any part of the code, correct or not! Trying to read about coding and standards is GREEK/GEEK to them, causing frustration and brain freezes. I know some folks that have published websites for years and still have yet to insert the first piece of code into thier webpages! Others of us get bitten, but only get a some of the symptoms, not a full-blown case (I count myself in this category!). We want to work with code, but not the extent that you do. Different strokes for different folks! Thumbs Up Yes.....it is FUN! And always something new to learn and play with! woooot -Samantha
  15. Put this together using a tracker and photo program to add titles.... Florida DOES have a target on it. And X marks the spot! -Samantha
  16. Steve! Are you inviting more trouble, like tornados? Ya...I knew by the numbers Jeanne wiped out Haiti, but Florida will not have the mudslides or building problems they had. I was comparing Jeanne with Ivan for the sheer magnitude of storm. But then again Jeanne is powering up and when she makes landfall, they expect her to be a category 3 hurricane. Jeanne changed course again. We are now expected to get the eye of the storm down through the center of the state. I think I will be crawling UNDER my bed with my cat, or closing myself in my little step in (not fully a walk-in) closet for this storm. Well, time to start refilling all my water jugs/pails, clearing my screen room and assorted other chores to get ready for the storm. Gotta get some ice and a few other things from a grocery too... Gee... isn't this fun??? Hey folks.....how about those good thoughts and prayers again? We could use it around here. -Soggy Samantha
  17. No major storms in our area for years then suddenly 3 strong hurricanes in less than 6 weeks! None as deadly as Ivan, but still powerful and destructive. The storm is swinging in just far enough inland to make sure that Orlando will get another direct smack of hurricane force winds....the lines intersecting the three storm paths (Charley, Frances and Jeanne) is too close to home for comfort! Finally broke down and got a real cooler to replace my 4 year old styrofoam coolers. Frances took so long to come ashore that my bags of ice melted BEFORE the storm had even finished. Everyone outside of Florida, enjoy your weekend. If you are in Florida, batten down the hatches, here we go again! -Samantha
  18. I have a couple different links to your site.... will have to locate them and update! -Samantha
  19. corrected my post with apology
  20. Glad you liked my site. It's a work in progress as most are. Many of us monitor the CSB part of the forum, and there's also a forum offered by GLobalscape too where you can post for assistance. If you get stuck or need a nudge, POST a question. We will assist and point you in the right direction! If you would like to see more of what CSB can allow you to do, check out my long list of CSB sites on this page for some ideas: www.samisite.com/csbsites.htm Here's just a few from that list: - www.jikrantz.se - uses tables and iframes - www.cmg02.com/webmasters/ - uses tables inside tables (like my home page) - www.rjskon.com/templates/ - inserted FLASH (you can get more CSB templates here) - www.altaredlives.org/ - this IS a template, but not an ordinary one. - www.unitarianhiltonhead.org/index.htm - modified template (site uses frames) There's a wide variety on the look and purpose for the sites and they do not have to be cookie-cutter, plain templates. That's just a starting point. You can modify any of the formats with your own colors/images, or start with a blank page and build from there. You can read up about layering tables to create a page like mine or Curtis's here: http://www.samisite.com/test-csb/id36.htm Suggest you download the user guide from Globalscape. That and MANY MORE web building resources are discussed on this page (whether you use CSB or other programs, there are some great program suggestions on that page!). http://www.samisite.com/webbuild.htm CSB has a deceptively simple interface. When I started with the Trellix (Forerunner) to CSB, I was disappointed that I not could do "special things" with the program. WRONG. You can! The program looks generic at first. But the more you work with it, the more you find you can do with it! But it is NOT an photo or HTML editor. You will need to prepare your photos outside of CSB. You can insert HTML or other codes to dress your site, but the main HTML code is generated automatically by CSB and you will never edit it directly. -Samantha (edited to correct jikrantz.se - Sorry Thomas... I was posting too early in the morning to notice what I typed).
  21. OOOPS.... Yup I did! Gotta learn to check that more often! -Samantha
  22. Jeanne has spent a week wandering in circles in the Atlantic Ocean. She's finally on the move and it looks like she's going to head to Florida's east coast again and has the potential to either sweep up through the center of the state (yet again) or just scoot along the coastline to GA, SC and NC sharing misery on it's way northward. Asking for good thoughts and prayers for that east coast that was so battered by Frances just a few weeks ago. JEANNE....GO AWAY!!!! REALLY tired of these things. -Samantha
  23. emmy
  24. Thanks Thomas for your post. (It's ok to talk to yourself...just don't start any arguments you or you can't win!) -Samantha
  25. Yup...posted yesterday on the original IVAN thread that Ivan had stormed across central Florida with gusty winds while treking back to the Gulf. At the time our meteoroligists warned that the storm could reintensify and become the first storm in history to hit twice. I found on one major hurricane tracking sites says the storm just hit you folks, then just backed down into the gulf again instead of running up through Tennessee and WV and back to the atlantic as it really did. If you can't trust them to show where a storm has already been, how can we trust them to predict/track new storms??? Ivan is terrible, even as a depression. -Samantha
