joly Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 I didn't know where to post this so since I've working on my websites with Frontpage I thought I'd put it here. Anyway I have not done any changes to my website in days. One's under construction and I made a page for that. The other is just a little 2 page I put up with pics until I can redo it. I just went in to look at them and the font has changed on its own. I had used American Classic and it looks like its changed back to Times Roman. I've not done anything to these sites. They were ok the last time I looked at them. What would cause this? Joly =^..^= www.my-birman-noelle.com purrcity.my-birman-noelle.com Quote
Deverill Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 The time you looked at it and it showed up as Times Roman, were you using the same computer? If the computer did not have the American Classic font loaded it could have defaulted to the other font. Quote
joly Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 Yes, I looked at it on both my home and work computer, I'm at work right now. It was American Classic on both until today. Joly Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 I looked at the source of your pages and it does indeed reference the American Classic font. But as Jim says, if that font is not installed on someone else's computer and they access your page it will display in what ever default font they have chosen to view pages with. Some people also override the browser to display in only one font. Quote
joly Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 Can you tell me what you see when you go to the site? Maybe my company did something to our system I'm not aware of. www.my-birman-noelle.com purrcity.my-birman-noelle.com Thanks! Quote
joly Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 Bruce, I have a dumb question.....how do I check my work computer to see if its installed? I know when I've showed my co workers in the last few days it showed American Classic but for the life of me unless our systems did something, I know I didn't. Even though I can be alittle dangerous with these things! LOL Quote
bellringr Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 I see Times New Roman for both (I do not have American Classic on my machine). Quote

Even though I can be alittle dangerous with these things! LOL Fonts are stored in the Windows/Fonts folder. That's where it would normally be if it's installed. Use Windows Explorer and go to the Windows folder and then the fonts folder. Edited May 6, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
joly Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 Hmmm, what you're seeing is a different font yet which makes things off center. Guess I'm back to square one and need to start all over and just use a basic font. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 I do not have the American Classic font and my browser is set to display Arial as the default font. Quote
joly Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 A great big thank you for all your help! I think I'll just use the Arial, that's one of my favs anyway and most people have it. Good thing I haven't gotten too far on the real site! TCH to the rescue. Yous are the best! Joly Rock Sign Quote
bellringr Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 Joly, if you want to use a header or small amount of text in a specific font, you can always use some sort of graphics program to make a picture with text. Like making a banner except with a transparent background. You just don't want to put too much text this way as the picture itself will increase how long it takes your page to download. Quote
joly Posted May 7, 2004 Author Posted May 7, 2004 Thanks Bellringr. I might do that when I figure that out too! I've been reading up on how to make a banner. Hope to play around and make one with a small pic of Noelle in the corner. Its just gonna take me time to figure it out. When I made those pages I was just playing around with the fonts and using something different. Most of the time I use Arial so I think I'll stick to that. Will be alot simpler all the way around. I so appreciate all the help! Love your website! Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 Curtis, One of our family members has a page that might help explain Browser compatible fonts http://www.cmg02.com/webmasters/websafe.htm Quote
joly Posted May 7, 2004 Author Posted May 7, 2004 Oh, wow! Don, thank you very much!! This is just what I needed being new to this! Cool! All I can say is no other web host would have helped me as much as everyone here. TCH does rock and I love it here. Once again, I can't say it enough, you're all the best. Joly Quote
lktodd Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Joly, I can also recommend a good book on FrontPage - very simple basics. Probably there is a more recent edition. "How to Use Microsoft FrontPage 2002". Sams is the publisher. It mentions this font issue. BTW, when you saw my site, most of my "banners" are using .JPG files because I wanted a font that most computers don't have. Be careful that for every paragraph you write you specify the font, too. joly Posted May 14, 2004 Author Posted May 14, 2004 Thanks for the info on the book, I will look for it. I have several on other programs by Sams I like, easy to understand. I like your website, its an inspiration! I hope to get some time this weekend to get started on it, after painting a room. Quote
