altec Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 The guys who created Apache web server have found a way to boost cgi-bin perl script speeds by 100x with mod_perl. Here's a quote from: http://perl.apache.org/start/tips/registry.html "Obviously, it depends on the script, but the hello.cgi script above ran at 7.3 requests per second as a CGI script and 243.0 requests per second with Apache::Registry." Now the big question --- does TCH support Apache's mod_perl? If not, why? Seems like a win-win for all... I know there are shared hosting providers that have this but I'd love to sign up a couple domains here at TCH based on the reviews, community & price/features. Quote
borfast Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 I don't think TCH has mod_perl installed. I grabed the perl script in the help section of the site - http://help.totalchoicehosting.com/toolspage.htm - and loaded it into my server. Here's the part about the modules: Perl libraries installed Library CGI v2.752 installed The library mod_perl is not installed Library www-perl v5.69 installed Library DBI v1.34 installed Library DBD::mysql v2.1022 installed Library URI v1.23 installed The library Apache is not installed Library Digest::MD5 v2.23 installed Library Crypt::SSLeay v0.49 installed Hope this clears it up for you. dognamedmoses Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 I've heard that mod_perl can be a resource hog a times, as well as can be more difficult to administrate with a bunch of domains on a single machine... also, they may have some security issues with a perl interpreter inside their web server... ThatAdamGuy Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Has this situation changed? Is mod_perl now available? Quote
TCH-Rick Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Here are the results of one section of running env.pl: Perl libraries installed Library CGI v2.752 installed Library mod_perl v1.28 installed Library www-perl v5.69 installed Library DBI v1.37 installed Library DBD::mysql v2.9002 installed Library URI v1.24 installed Library Apache v1.27 installed So yes, it has changed. The test above was on server 31. Quote
