Guest Sharisse Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 I just got an email today from TCH that gave me the links to access my cpanel etc. basically I registered to TCH because I was sick with the ads in my free hosting website. and so without thinking just registered to TCH that I came across. anyways...I dont know much about building websites....and when I click on cpanel...I just stared..coz I dont recognize anything in there..and how to go about it. what I'd like to ask you is..is there any tuts or how to build website and store files and anything in details that I could read and understand more? and lastly....I know we have to register for domain name separately. I applied for starter plan and the email told me that my site name would be **** ....so must I buy the domain name or I could just start building websites as it is now ....and what would be the site name if I finished with the site?? **** or what? since I dont register the domain name. I'm not good in english..so I hope you will understand what I'm asking and help me.... I read in one of your topic that the email would not be working until the domain propagated that could take 24-48 hours......so is that mean I will have to wait untill they sent me email again ? thanks so much...I'm such an idiot.. borfast Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Well, first of all, welcome to the family About building your webpage, you can try searching google for tutorials. Try search phrases like "web page building tutorial", "html tutorial" or "webdesign tutorial". You'll find lots of information regarding this Good luck! Quote
TCH-Andy Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Sharisse, Welcome to the Family How did you build your old website? You may be able to move a lot of your web site over to TCH. To try and answer your questions. cpanel: this is for controlling your account, not creating your web page. As borfast says there are a number of tutorials on building web pages, and a number of free packages for creating a basic one. Domain Name: Yes, you will need to buy one, although you can start building your web site before then and using the IP address (the four number which will look something like 126.57.12.145) The 24-48 hours is the time it takes for your domain name to propogate - i.e. when you purchase your domain name it will take time before somebody can type that name into their browser window and it will go to your site, simply because it takes a while for the whole world to be told where your domain is. I hope this helps. Just keep asking lots of questions - we are all friendly around here Andy PS. I think your english is very good - if only I could manage a foreign language like that I'd be very happy Quote
Lianna Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Welcome Home! Visit our Help Site that was just brought online. There are cPanel 'movie' tutorials there and tons of other VERY useful information. Find it here and bookmark it for future reference: http://help.totalchoicehosting.com Lianna PS: If you were using an online 'site builder' program with your free host, chances are you will love CuteSITE Builder. It's based on the Trellix Web application (makers of many online builders now). Quote

Tony_B Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Hi Sharisse, I dont now if it´s the same for everybody. But when i got my cpanel i tought it was hard to, and i changed the theme to blue..something then it was easier. Then you se the hole page and its easier to administrate, i think that the defualt theme in the cpanel gives u a sence off that is hard to administrate. Then i can recomend u to install a CMS solution like PostNuke or PhpNuke Xoops Mambo etc at no cost...they are easy to install and the is a lot off free themes and modules. Quote
champagnemojo Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 I'm tempted to try out that CuteSiteBuilder myself. But I must admit, I really love HTML-Kit. It's freeware and rather easy to use, especially if you know at least a little about html to begin with. Quote
Lianna Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 *YAY* CSB is incredibly easy to use. I'm really excited about this venture. Li Quote
curtis Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 I started using CuteSiteBuilder, well back then it was Trellix 2.5.Moved up to Trellix 2.7. When Globalscape brought the rights to Trellix and named it Cute Site I didn't think twice about going to it. There is a great support forum(KW and Lianna helped hundreds of people with their questions)and KW has a Trellix/CSB support site that is unbelievable. curtis Quote
