We now can use SSL to access webmail, but the problem is still there... port 2096.

Lots of companies firewalls block ports above 1024. Why can't we get webmail to run on 8080? or even port 81?

Webmail at TCH isn't what I can get with yahoo or even crummy hotmail... access from any pc anywhere. Since port 2096 is blocked at my office, I have to use other solutions such as web2mail to check my email.

This is the only thing I miss from my previous hosting provider. Webmail on a true "web port" port 80.

Put this on the "wishlist"!

Not that I see alot of other people posting about this but I also would like webmail on a port that I can get to from work. I don't know what other port to use but Port 2096 is not ideal for me either. :D

OK, I did not see the poll before I posted. Anyway just my 2 cents.

I know use my mailer of the company so whist I accept it from my mailserver on the web, i send it back out again using the companys one, otherwise my port is blocked too.

Give it a try!

Of course no sooner do I unpin the poll, then folks start talking about this again. You can see the comments and results of the poll here. (50% ok the way it is, 40% would like port changed/made available)

Those results and the total voting numbers certainly wouldn't substantiate a change. Total of 20 people (and 1 was me) voted. 10 against, 8 for changing ports.

A work around like what was suggested by Jim is probably the best solution here.
