Ahkileez Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Something of an unusual question, and by no means does a TCH staffmember need to answer it if it impinges on the practicalities of selling a service and product. I'm planning on setting up an account on TCH and trying to decide which plan to choose, and pretty much the main difference between the regular hosting accounts is storage space and bandwidth. I was wondering if there was any sort of statistics on average bandwidth use for websites on TCH. And I suppose a way around revealing compromising information is for other TCH clients to mention their own average bandwidth usage / hits. Any help is more than appreciated. Quote

You may have 1 site that uses 30 gigs a month and another that uses less than 1 gig. Not to mention the variables, traffic, images, flash, downloads etc. Last month one of my personal sites had over 38,000 page views and used 9.98GB of bandwidth Quote

What kind of growth are you shooting for? How many visitors? Is it a new site or an existing one? My site of over 1000 pages with images was using under 2 Gb a month, Mikes had over 9. It depends on what you are going to be serving. Remember you can upgrade later if you need to. Quote
Ahkileez Posted February 11, 2004 Author Posted February 11, 2004 Well the site is for an organization and I intend to use TCH's generous subdomain policy to create subdomains / sub FTPs for various team leaders in the org. So it could concievably end up being quite a few pages, and likely many of them would be image intensive. I would say an easy estimate would be 100 pages at the low end. Quote
Alan Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Ahkileez, I have the Silver plan for my personal website, I think it is awesome, there is alot of resources in it, I would start off with the Silver Plan, then as you need more space/Bandwidth Upgrade to the next account. Also I have a reseller account with TCH, if you are wanting to host everyone in your groups site, and let them just buy domains for themselves, I would use the Basic Reseller account, and allow them to host their domains through you. That way their sites are theirs, and your site is yours. Also, the bandwidth issue, last month I had 306 Visits to my pages, with more added if you count the visits of the inner pages. I had used less than 1 GB of bandwidth, keep in mind though I do not post alot of graphics or pictures on my site yet. But I do use the FTP alot, because I am always updating my website. I think 10 GBs of Bandwidth will do you untill you need more, and you can always upgrade it then. If you need more help, do not forget to post again! -Alan Quote
DarqFlare Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Tisk tisk Mike! I served up 62,000 pages last month and only used, oh, about 4GB or so! Unoptimized pages, I'm tellin' ya.. Anyway, you can always get say, the Silver Package (As suggested) and if it is inadequate, just upgrade your account to the new package before it causes you any trouble. Quote
