Since I'm pretty much no use at making more than basic technical observations, I found the following spelling/grammar error.

Under FAQ, "How long will it take to get my order?"

"You order and satisfaction is top priority!" should be "Your order and satisfaction are top priority."

On the right, the links under Kentucky Arboretums and Planting Instructions are invisible until I put my mouse over them. Looks like you have a white font on white background.

I love your garden articles! I wish I could have a veggie garden. I have a larger backyard, but it is completely in the shade. :( The most I can muster is a rhubarb patch.

Big Gorilla - Thank you for the comment!

bellringr - I take it that you are using the safari browser. I have to check and see if I can download that browser so I can fix the problem for that particular browser. The background in aol, IE, and Mozilla 5.0 is actually a light grey color with white font. Is safari a macintosh only browser or can I install it on my PC? Thanks for the error check. Sometimes you look at your pages so much much, you miss little stuff like that..

Actually, I use IE....that's really odd. I do have my gamma up a tad, but it shouldn't make that big of a difference. I'm going to e-mail the link to myself at work and take a look there.

(Edit - Later) It must be something in my settings at home because I do see the gray at work. Even the bullets look different here. I'll have to do some adjustments when I get home so I don't miss anything else, especially when building my own site!

I'm the safari user, and yes, it's a mac only browser. You can try iCapture to see how it looks on safari (but it looks pretty good).

The text on the right does show up white on grey, but it could probably use a little more contrast to make it more easily read, now that it's been mentioned.

Brian:

Bluegrass Garden has been added to our Web Hosting Family Members page :)

SEO Thoughts:

1. You need Alt tags on all your images.

2. Hmmm... Brian I do not mean to sound harsh but your HTML is pretty dirty. Meaning the proper structure of nested opening and closing tags is not adhered to. Spiders do not like poor HTML so I would highly recommend you clean this up.

Here is just one example of you code:

><li><b>Perennials</b></font></a><font color="#003366">
               <a class="browse" href="store.html"><font color="#003366"></li>

Each set of tags (opening and closing) should be nested properly. See the <b> and then the </b>, well that is perfect. Now notice the </font> closing tag without a corresponding <font> tag. This is true for the </a> as well. And then you have a <font> opening tag but not a closing tag. This is all nested in <li> </li>. You should also get rid of all those spaces ' '

You can validate your HTML using the W3C MarkUp Validation Service.

This is very important... for many reasons including spiders.

3. You have one image that is quite large (as in kb); whtswan2.jpg, the actual image is 400 x 326 but you are displaying it at 655 x 221 which is not an equal ratio. This is why the image looks distorted. It would be best to reduce the image size to the actual size that will be displayed which will allow you to display it without distortion plus it will take less memory (i.e. the whole page will load faster).

Make sense?

4. <title>Buy trees, shrubs, perennials, vines, plants online! Secure Online Ordering for

plants. Top quality garden plants at affordable prices. Buy Online!</title>

Too long, how about:

<title>Bluegrass Gardens - Online Trees, Shrubs, Perennials, Vines and Plants</title>

5. <meta NAME="description"

Too long also.

How about:

<meta NAME="description" content="Buy trees, shrubs, perennials, vines and plants online from Bluegrass Gardens.">

6. <meta NAME="keywords"

Wow... you got a bunch :)

Reduce these down (way down) to only the most relevant.

I think I have given you enough to start with... you have a little bit of work to do.

Good luck :)

Thanks Scott,

As I say, we are pretty new at this and I switch back and forth between manual edit and Frontpage 2002. There are some things I still don't understand and am happy to learn. I appreciate the critique. I found the W3C Markup Validator in an earlier post and saw ALOT of problems there. Looks like I have some work. I have been watching VERY closely our ranking in google. That is the reason for my title tag being as it is. It seems to work pretty well that way right now. I don't believe in "cheating" as some of the sites ranked above us on Google engine results, and will find other legit ways to tweak the ranking. I'm sure all of your suggestions will improve our ranking somewhat. I appreciate you taking the time to do this for us and Thank you for adding us to the family! Anytime someone asks our opinion for an excellent web host, you ABSOLUTELY get a referral from us. Keep up the great work. Thank you once again!
