Megarad Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 I use Eudora at home on my desktop through a DSL connection. I installed Eudora for a trip on my laptop and set up the properties the same as the setup on the desktop. I could check mail (and receive them) but not send (through a modem connection). I never solved the problem & assumed that I just messed something up. I am now on another trip with a different laptop and the same thing happened. I can receive but not send. Where do I look for the source? I am trying to connect to racewax.com. Thanks, M Quote
stevevan Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Check out the instructions found here. I personally don't use Eudora, but I do use various other types of email pgms. I usually have to play around a little with the settings based upon the info found in the link. If you still can't get it, drop us another message. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 What ISP are you using while on the road? Many block using port 25 which means you can receive but not send. NetZero and Juno both block port 25 as does Earthlink. You should set up the SMTP to use port 26 rather than 25 and see if that will solve the problem. Quote
Megarad Posted January 26, 2004 Author Posted January 26, 2004 Earthlink... Where in the world do you set that? I looked in options and properties, did I miss something? Thanks!! Quote
natimage Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Megarad...I know you said you use Eudora, but I'm going to post this info. anyway. Maybe it will help indirectly. I use Earthlink's TotalAccess 2004 and found the port settings by doing the following: On TotalAccess2004 Task Bar, click the more button on the email button. Click email options...then TotalAccess mailbox settings...then click accounts...then edit the proper account. In this box, you can change the smtp port. Quote
Megarad Posted January 26, 2004 Author Posted January 26, 2004 I had a chat with earthlink. They say its you & that they don't block 25. As a test I configured for my earthlink email and I could read & send email. But still can't send through racewax.com HELP! Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 I'm sorry, but I have Earthlink and they do block port 25 to external mail servers. They allow port 25 to their own SMTP server. I had the exact same problem using my Earthlink account on vacation. I changed Outlook to use port 26 and had no problems sending. I downloaded Eudora and could not find a place to change the port setting. If you feel there is a problem with the account please open a Help Desk ticket and we can look at it. Quote
Megarad Posted January 26, 2004 Author Posted January 26, 2004 OK that helps clarify why earthlink worked & you didn't. I found that to set the port with Eudora, you have to set the ini file alternate port, but when I do I get a different error. Quote
Megarad Posted January 26, 2004 Author Posted January 26, 2004 New error is: SSL negotiation failed: Certificate error: Cert chain not trusted. Try adding this cert to your cert database for SSL to succeed Certificate bad: Destination Host name does not match host name in certificate. Thx Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Sounds like you have it set to use SSL on password Authentication. You should change the setting in the Sending Mail from If available, STARTTLS to Never. Quote
Megarad Posted January 26, 2004 Author Posted January 26, 2004 Thanks, but that just gets me back to the old error of not connecting to mail server. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Why couldn't you just change your outgoing mailserver to use Earthlink's mail server with athenticated logon using your Earthlink account information? I've done this in the past with different providers. Quote
Megarad Posted January 27, 2004 Author Posted January 27, 2004 Why couldn't you send me your address so I could send you a box of homemade cookies!! That's it! It works now. I never imagined you could do that (I assumed the in & out had to match). Thank you! M Quote
Lianna Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 *YAY* (Bruce, you might want to warn Bonnie! ) Quote
