Lebleu Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 I need to know 2 things. One is do i have shell acess to my account with this service. I just am working on my site now and ran into problems installing phpbb2 forums when i got to changing permissions. The second thing is how do i change permissions to my config.php file. Quote
Nicholas Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Lebleu, You can request access at the helpdesk to get shell for your account, and to change your permissins, you can do this 2 ways... 1. You can log into your control panel and select 'file manager' from the top links. then select the file you would like to change permissions on by clicking the text link beside the file. After you click this link it will give you an option on the right to 'change permissions' or 'chmod', i can't remember which. however then you are set to change them.. 2. You can use your ftp client to go into your account and find the file. Once it's found you can right click it and select 'chmod', on most ftp's anyhow. If these don't work let me know. thanks Nicholas Quote
KevinW Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Lebleu -- Nicholas is right on -- you can use File Manager from inside CPanel to set or change file permissions. FWIW, did you know that TCH supplies phpbb via cPanel as a user forum? Also, many users are using Invision (which is what this discussion forum runs on), and that you can drop in a help disk requesting that Invision be installed. -kw Quote
Lebleu Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 As for invision vrs phpbb2 i rather go with the phpbb2 as im more familiar with it and i already got half of it set up. As for changing permissions thanks alot thats just what i needed. Now i tried changing permissions to be writtable by all to the public_html like the instructions for phpbb2 said but i changed permissions to the public_html instead of the config.php by mistake. I chagned back permissions of public html to only the user and fixed the config.php file permissions. But now when i try to acess my site it says acess forbidden and i cant do anything on it. I also am having huge problems now. My phpbb2 folder which waws held in the public_html i just cant find. I cant open any folders in public html via ftp client or file permissions. I have no clue whats going on and how can i get this all fixed. Quote
KevinW Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Lebleu - if you changed permissions to your public_html drive, suggest you drop in a help ticket immediately and have on of the TCH techs look at your site. Be sure to include your userisd and password to your web site acocunt so they can properly access it. Good luck! -kw Quote
Lebleu Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 Ok the help desk fixed it. Now can anyone tell me exactly how to make config.php change to write all then then make it write only to user when im done with it Quote
KevinW Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 'Write all' would be either: chmod 666 or chmod 777 'Write user only' would be 755 Is that what you wanted to know? -kw Quote
Head Guru Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Just FYI we are no longer install Invision Board. Thanks Bill Quote
KevinW Posted February 10, 2003 Posted February 10, 2003 Bill, Just saw your reply regarding Invision. Sorry I suggested that users contact the help desk to get Invision. I was working off a previous message thread that indicated this. -kw Quote
