Hi all,

I have no skills in creating Flash Images. Please tell me, is it possible to create a slide show for my website using Powerpoint? If so, how do I upload it to the server? And what folder should I place this file in?

Thanks in advance... Thumbs Up

Good question. I know you can save the slideshow itself as a PowerPoint Slideshow (one of the options in the "save as" drop down box). I do this on a regular basis to put presentations on CD's I distribute out. But I don't know if these will play via the Internet. Another concern would be the size of the file. Regarding the location, I would imagine as long as the link was correct, you could almost put it anywhere.

Unless someone else more knowledgeable in these things has a more definitive answer, I'll try this out when I get home on Thursday afternoon to my DSL hookup. I'm on the road right now, so testing things out through a 28.8 (if I'm lucky!) dialup connection sucks!

If you dont want anything very large or complex, just a basic slide show, contact me. I might be able to do some cut and paste from your powerpoint and send back a flash file.

All you have to do is choose File then choose Save as Web Page. Then you can choose different the different options you might want. Then it will export it and create a all the html pages, then you just ftp it to your web space and you will be good to go.

At the risk of sounding like a stick-in-the-mud anti-Microsoftian, I'd recommend not using powerpoint to convey anything you want your web viewers to actually see. Clients/Customers are another case -- sometimes Powerpoint is the right way to convey information for them, but from my experience a powerpoint document usually presents one more barrier to getting to the content that you want them to see. I really despise the web-styled interface to online powerpoint presentationis. If the format/presentation is really important, but it still needs to go online, how about converting it to PDF? That way, you get to preserve the document and they get to read it in a viewer that's mature, and now that PDFs are just about everywhere, it's not a jarring experience to come across one anymore. Your PDF can even include hyperlinks and (if you really want them) fade effects. (The flash idea is good for something like this, too, but limits what your users can do with the document.)

Sorry, wet blanket, I know. My perception on this one is no doubt colored by looking for some information at the web site of my county assessor's office and finding it trapped inside a powerpoint presentation. It struck me as a sloppy way to put something online, rather than an effective use of the right tools.

Point very well taken "schussat." However, my intentions were not meant to use Powerpoint for an online presentation, but more a form of a slide show just to capatilize off it's animation features due to my lack of knowledge in creating even a basic Flash file.

*Honestly I think it's really great having a Forum such as this one, because I find that people here are very kind and helpful.
