Hey, TCH folks --

I've got a bunch of domains hosted here -- five or six at last count. They're all mine and all fairly small (either Starter or Silver plan); even the largest only uses about 140MB of space and transfers about 500-600MB per month.

But it's annoying to have six separate CPanels and six separate logins (akantor, ak, editor, yada yada yada). So I'm thinking of getting myself a reseller account for the convenience.

Here are my questions:

1. Figure I have five domains on the Silver Plan: That's a total of 2500MB disk space and 50GB of bandwidth for $25/month. To get near those numbers I'd need the Deluxe Reseller Plan (2500MB space and 25GB bandwidth) and would pay $45/month.

Assuming that I'm not actually going to resell (I just want to consolidate my domain management), what are the advantages to a reseller account?

2. I've paid for a year with some of my domains. Would any of that be applied to a reseller account, or should I wait till the 12th month and then convert?

You guys are terrific -- I actually worry that I'm getting spoiled by being here, and that one day you'll get bought out by some Evil Empire and all this will go away. Till then, though, I like to brag. "Really? Gee, my host gives that free." :)

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

The biggest advantage is the one you have named, everything is under one roof, well control of the accounts is under one roof. However, each domain, unless its an addon domain (hence just a single folder on the main domain) will still need its own seperate CPANEL access. You can of course completley control the domains though, your not limited to parked/add on domains and you feel like your own webmaster! You can of course point domains to subdomains too as part of your reseller account.

The amount you have paid for the domain name itself has nothing to do with the accounts. You can do anything you want with these domains uptil the 12 month when you must again either pay for another year for them, or allow them to be put back into the domain name pool.

I hope these answers your questions, if not, ask more!

Rather than adding up the top limits of all the individual plans, add the actual storage space and bandwidth used. Add some storage space for emails and then select the reseller package that meets those needs. As you expand you can upgrade to a plan with more capacity at any time.

You can use whm to change the allocations as individual sites grow.

Also remember that with a reseller account you can adjust bandwidth and disk quota settings on each of your sub-accounts. If you have, say, 2 50GB sites now and one only uses 20 and the other 51 you're in trouble. As a reseller you can give one 25 and the other 75 and still be in the same total range. This is the single biggest benefit I see from my own account. I have a lot of small accts and it's much more efficient to give them only what they need than to have 5 boxes all the same size.

Also, if you want to do this, submit a ticket to the help desk and they will work with you on consolidating your accounts and they can also work out the amount due based on what you still have pre-paid versus what the new account will cost.

Super -- many thanks for the help.

Just to be clear, though, I would still need to go to each site's CPanel separately to view logs etc. The advantage (since I don't plan on actually selling domains) is being able to adjust space and bandwidth among my sites.

Yes. You'll have to check but I'd bet there is a small financial advantage to doing it as a reseller too. It's like buying 12 cans of soda versus buying a case at a time.
