I am looking to move from my current hosting service and am looking at your simple reseller account. I want to verify that my hosting requirements will work on this plan.

I manage a web site for a regional non-profit with 50 chapters. Some chapters want their own domain name, some are ok with a subdomain. We want to handle the accounting and setup for the chapters, so don't want them all going off and getting individual hosting accounts.

With a reseller account, can I set up multiple add-on and sub domains chapters, and *easily* set up unique email address for the chaperts? (Tried of using Procmail.) Each chapter will want to have an email for webmaster@chaptername.com and probably other email addresses that are duplicated. (I couldn't get your CPanel demo to work, so didn't get to check out your tools.)

I assume that chapters using subdomains address will need to use their personal emails. I can set up chapter@maindomain.org for general email.

How are the subdomains and add-on domains set up? Separate FTP directories with a symbolic to a directory in htdocs?

Each chapter will maintain their own web pages so password logins to the chapter's files is needed.

Each chapter will want a members only area, which is password protected within the add-on or subdomain. In addition to the normal data collection forms.

Is this all do-able?

Would like to see CPanel if the Test Drive gets working.

Thank you

Hello Kelli Grant,

First off, CPANEL Demo is not run on our servers, its run by www.cpanel.net themselves. We know its not working and its just as fustrating for us as it is for you!

With regard to your questions: (please note, .com is just an example, we host all domains!)

1) Each domain name has unlimted email addresses, thus you can create as many differentchaptername@maindomain.com as you want.

2) For each ".com" the account has its own cpanel setup. However, its not possible to "duplicate" email addresses at the flick of a switch, you would manually have to put them all in.

3) Subdomains are just directorys of the original domain name. E.g.

chapter1.maindomain.com

chapter2.maindomain.com

Each is just a folder, and you can create an FTP soley to access that folder. This can be passworded to your own password

Every folder can also be password protected too. E.g.

Chapter1.maindomain.com/membersarea could be passworded.

Normal "data collection" forms can be generated. I suggest you look at the New Formail clone script that our very own totalchoicehosting members have put together to work around the many problems with the current formmail script.

4) Domains can be add on and parked within the WHM Panel of the main account

I hope thats all you wanted to know answered above, if not, do ask more questions!

Thanks

Thanks Jim,

I understand the frustration depending on other people's websites to work. No problem. I will rummage around on their site some.

Sounds good. So just to clear in my mind. If I set up a simple reseller account with the domain name parent.org, I can put unlimited add-on domains on that account--chaper1.org, chapter2.org, etc--until I run out of bandwidth or space? (And, then upgrade. )

And, in reference to answer #2, since each add-on/parked domain has its own Cpanel, I can define webmaster@chapter1.org and webmaster@chapter2.org?

Can the individual chapters/add-on domains be locked out of the Cpanel for their domain? In other words, when they log in to update their web pages, is there a different login combo to log into the corresponding CPanel? And I can defne and control all passwords?

Kelli,

1) You can create as many accounts as you have space and bandwidth until as you say, you run out of space or bandwidth.

2) You have to be careful here. A parked domain will point to a space. E.g.

Say I own www.**** and also park www.newdomain.com, the www.newdomain.com is parked to look at www.**** and will not have its own cpanel as its "parked" ontop of the www.**** domain name. I hope that makes sense!

If its an add on domain, you create a package for it as normal :-)

Does that clear that section up, if not, do ask!

And yes, for each domain name, you can have the "same" email address, e.g.:

webmaster@domain1.com

webmaster@domain2.com

webmaster@domain3.com

and so on....

3) With each "add on" domain, it will have its own CPANEL, that is, its not connected to yours or any other domain name at all. You can't control whats on this CPANEL though. So I suggest you "forget" to tell them the password to it and when they need something doing, do it yourself.

With passwords, again, you can only control them from that domains CPANEL, so again, I suggest you forget to tell them.

I hope that explains everything, again, if not, do ask!

Sounds good. I will purchase a simple reseller account for a month and test it out with my own company domain that has 3 add-on domains. Looks like these are the features that I need.

Thanks for the help.
