natimage Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 I have finally gotten very used to writing html code, although I'm not a genious at it yet. So, I build a basic page with everything where I want it, and then I go into DW and clean up the code. Occasionally, DW puts an absurd amount of white space between, say, the end of some text and the closing tags that go with it...for no good reason. Sometimes, I fix it only to have DW rewrite it with all that space again. I know that there is no purpose design purpose for this empty space... ...can someone explain to me why DW does this? And...can I make it stop??? Thanks much, Tracy Quote
SEO Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Tracy: Edit > Preferences > Code Format > Preferences > Code Format The 'Tag Library Editor' will allow you to alter every single tag (e.g. no line break after particular tag). Assuming you have Dreamweaver MX. In older version you altered the source format directly (SourceFormat.txt). Hope this helps. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Tracy, If your running MX, also make sure you have the latest patch, it also corrects a few other problems too Jim Quote
Deverill Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Here's a link to an article on MM's website about telling DW not to rewrite html (usually imported from other sources.) Basically this option tells DW that if HTML is already written, don't mess around with it. http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts...h_templates.htm Quote
natimage Posted October 10, 2003 Author Posted October 10, 2003 Thanks, Guys! I will put some more work into it and see what happens. The tag editor wasn't something I knew anything about before today. I changed a couple of things...will have to see tomorrow if it makes a difference. Tracy ...off to Dreamland! Quote
