ogged Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Usually the "Host" entry in Latest Visitors is resolved to some recognizable English domain rather than just an IP address. I notice today that this is no longer the case. Is this temporary? Under the control of TCH? It would be a shame if this no longer happened. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Ogged, For as long as I have been looking at the "Latest Visitors" in CPanel it has been displayed as an IP. It would be interesting to see it the other way. I will say I prefer it as an IP though. I can track abusers easier and handle them as needed. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted September 29, 2003 Posted September 29, 2003 Hi, This is due to the CPANEL software and is not something that we have changed Jim Quote
ogged Posted September 29, 2003 Author Posted September 29, 2003 Thanks for the replies. That's interesting, Critical Mass, that you've only seen IPs. I think it's nice to see xxx.edu or .com; it gives me a good idea who's around. Oh well. Quote
ogged Posted October 2, 2003 Author Posted October 2, 2003 I've been poking around a bit more (I didn't realize how much I'd miss the DNS lookup on latest visitors) and I notice that AWStats has a configurable option for DNS lookup. Very nice. Does Latest Visitors have any similar configurable options? I would love to have it doing a lookup on hosts again. I say "again" because it was doing it until about 3-4 days ago. Quote
Wilexa Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 You must be special, ogged, because I have only seen IP addresses in my "latest visitors" page since I joined TCH in February! Then again maybe I am going blind, or senile, or both. ...dave Quote
ogged Posted October 2, 2003 Author Posted October 2, 2003 That's so strange! What have other people been seeing? Quote
ogged Posted October 3, 2003 Author Posted October 3, 2003 Ok Wilexa, one more test. What do you see in your logs files in the "Host" column? Until about a week ago, I was seeing resolved domain names. e.g., perry.umist.ac.uk m4-mp1.cvx1-b.pop.dial.ntli.net si1003.inktomisearch.com Those are copied straight from the log. Have you always seen just IPs? Quote
Wilexa Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Here's a line from my log September log file: >4.46.110.189 - - [21/Sep/2003:00:25:45 -0400] "GET /lb/images/turbobobcat.mov HTTP/1.1" 200 1889888 "http://wilexa.com/lb/whatsnew.php" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; Hotbar 4.3.5.0)" It just shows the IP address in the first field. How did you get the "reverse IP" to resolve in your logs? ...dave Quote
ogged Posted October 3, 2003 Author Posted October 3, 2003 I did nothing. It had always been that way...until about a week ago, when it stopped--much to my dismay. TCH folks, any thoughts on this? Quote
