NZ_Kiwi Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Hi, I have been very impressed about the information I have found via the web site and forums. Alot of my queries have been answered but I still have some final questions below. 1. Subdomains I currently use two domains for personal content, **** for technical content and mydomain.net for non-technical content. It is common practice to use some "code-name" for IT Projects, e.g Bamboo - code name for Mandrake 9.1 So, if the main page of a subdomain that uses a "code-name" (e.g tyr.****) has a clear note about the name/project, would this be okay under the subdomain usage policy ? 2. Email Attachments Is the system just checking the extension name or is it checking the file header information ? 3. Usage policy - Security Denial of Services, DDoS, Smurf and other service attacks started against your web site will effect the entire population of the Totalchoice Network, therefore your site will be subject to immediate termination of your account. The way this section reads to me is I would be held responsible for the actions of some unknown party Can you please clarify this. Has this happen to a TCH client before ? 4. Content Example Query I use alot of software that is licensed under GPL. What if I was to make my own version of phpsysinfo (which TCH uses) with some extra features and then host it on a TCH server (source code, screen shots, documents, but no working example) , say under info-x.**** Would there be any "Content Issues" with this ? Is there any issues with section 4.2 of the hosting terms (copyright/IP rights) ? Best Regards, NZ_Kiwi side fyi note about "Tyr" ... Norse god Tyr (or Tiw, Ziw) is the ancient god of War and the Lawgiver of the gods. Tyr is excellent in all manners of Justice, fair play, and Right Action. Quote

According to the new policy as long as you are not selling your space your ok. (as long as it doesnt break any of the other rules, no warez, no pornographic material etc) 2. Email Attachments Is the system just checking the extension name or is it checking the file header information ? This ones best left to one of the server admins I believe 3. Usage policy - Security QUOTE Denial of Services, DDoS, Smurf and other service attacks started against your web site will effect the entire population of the Totalchoice Network, therefore your site will be subject to immediate termination of your account. The way this section reads to me is I would be held responsible for the actions of some unknown party Can you please clarify this. Has this happen to a TCH client before ? You would not be held responsible for their actions, but if your site is the target, terminating your account is the best way to stop the DDos attack that affects the entire server. Another one best left to someone more "in the know" Hope that helps, If not someone higher up will be along to answer the others as well as correct any if I'm wrong Quote
Head Guru Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 2. Email Attachments Is the system just checking the extension name or is it checking the file header information ? The exim filter looks at header information, this is where most of its filtering abilities come from. Copyright Violations are Copyright Violations. Quote
NZ_Kiwi Posted September 1, 2003 Author Posted September 1, 2003 Thanks for the quick answers. Question #1 - Issue closed. Question #2 - Thought so. Issue closed. Question #3 - but if your site is the target, terminating your account is the best way to stop the DDos attack that affects the entire server. I agree that a DDos would need to stopped, but what would be the end result long term for my web site and/or ability to use my domain email ? Question #4 - I agree that copyrights need to be followed. Issue closed. Regards, NZ_Kiwi Quote
TCH-Andy Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 DDOS attacks are usually relatively short term issues whilst we get things under control. During the period of the attack you would not be able to pick up email. Once the situation was resolved, then life should return to normal, you could pick up your emails and the site would be back online. Andy Quote
