30SoS Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Howdy, all. This is the first of most likely many questions from me since I'm a newbie doing this on my own for the first time... Anyway, I uploaded my site last night through Dreamweaver and I believe that I have it set up correctly in the public_html folder. Today, I changed my name servers over to TCH and it says that the change is 'active' (which I'm assuming means it's complete -- before it was pending). Anyway, my site comes up fine but when I add /cpanel to the end I get an error screen? Am I missing something? And is there any way I can check through my browser to see if my site is actually pulling from TCH or if it's still grabbing from my old host (which is still active). Thanks in advance for you help. TCH-Rick Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 If you changed your nameservers today you are likely still seeing the old site. It takes 24-72 hours for the changes to take place, especially when the domain has been on a different server. You will know that has propagated when you can pull up the CPanel with the domain name. Even then it may be sporatic depending on how your ISP handles the DNS. Quote
30SoS Posted August 14, 2003 Author Posted August 14, 2003 Thanks. I just assumed it had switched right away since it said it was 'active' and listed the TCH name servers... So is there any way that I can make sure that I did everything right and that my site will show/work before I re-point my domain names? I have a few parked domains -- I thought about pointing one of them over to TCH and using that as a test. Would that work? Just not sure if I moved/set up the site correctly and I want to avoid any unnecessary downtime (espcially with my email accounts). If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! J Quote
TCH-JimE Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 Hi, To see your site before the domain propergation takes place do the following: Http://serverX.totalchoicehosting.com/~username/ The X = server number your on whilst the ~username is your username given to you when you joined Totalchoice web hosting in the welcome email Any more questions, please feel free to ask!
