seaofbass Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Hi. I just signed up with you guys today, and have a few questions. Currently, I'm with Ipower.com . My contract with them expires 4/9/09. Should I wait 'til then to begin the domain transfer process, or do it immediately? I got the authcode from them, as well as the login info to change the info about my domain. Totalchoice emailed me some some DNS info, as well as the server name. I'm assuming after I log into https://manage.opensrs.net that I got to where you update the server information and put in the totalchoice server, but how do I "visit my registrar and update my DNS pointers?" Lastly, where do use this authcode? Thanks. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Welcome to the forums seaofbass Start by transferring your content over to the TCH Servers. You can use the IP address provided in your welcome email. After you have your content on the TCH servers you can then transfer your domain to TCH and that is where you will use the authcode. You can call a Transfer Concierge anytime! 1-480-505-8866. They can only help with the domain transfer and not the content. http://www.securepaynet.net/default.aspx?prog%5Fid=simple Or if you aren't transferring the domain, you would then change your name servers at your registrar using the ones listed in your welcome email. seaofbass Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Welcome to your new home! Thanks. I attempted transfer the domain about an hour ago, using instructions provided the TCH support staff (I emailed them also). It wanted me to log in to my account so I could use the same credit card I'd already paid with for the hosting service, but I keep getting error messages when I enter the username and password provided in the welcome email. I remember reading it takes 24-72 hours to set up the account, so will I not be able to log in 'til then, or am I doing something wrong? Quote

That time from is for any changes you make to a domain registration to propagate. Concerning the login issue, the hosting and domain services are separate services as well as systems. Therefore you will need to establish an account for the domain services. This can be done during the transfer order at http://www.securepaynet.net/gdshop/transfe...;prog_id=simple . If you want to establish an account before making the order, please visit http://www.securepaynet.net/default.aspx?prog%5Fid=simple and select "Create Account" at the top of the page. Quote
seaofbass Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Okay, I have new one. It seems my domain has been transferred, so everything should be all good now, right? I need to reupload my site to the totalchoice servers for it to be "live" again, right? So, how do I get to that point? My email says "[my domain name]/cpanel", but when I enter that, I get a failed to open page message. I don't see a Cpanel link anywhere on the totalchoice site, or somewhere to log in (except for the domain site, which isn't what I want, right?) to access web building utitilities, etc. I'm a little lost. TCH-Carl Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Normally it will take a couple of hours for the changes on the nameservers to get propagated throughout the internet. If you can contact me via IM -- tchgurucarl (AIM, Yahoo!) or post a ticket using the help desk link on the top menu we will gladly check it out. We would need the domain name to see if it has propagated. Quote
seaofbass Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Ok, I think I did this right. I downloaded yahoo messenger and added tchgurucarl as a contact. Quote

In post number 2 above the first step you should have done was: Start by transferring your content over to the TCH Servers. You can use the IP address provided in your welcome email. Hopefully you will still be able to access your old host's site to get your content off of it if you don't have a copy on your computer. Quote
seaofbass Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 I build the site with Iweb, upload via Fetch. So I need to reupload, then? When I enter my site name in a browser, I get an ugly directory tree (cgi bin, parent directory, private, etc.). Does that mean it's ready to roll if I just reupload, or has all the domain/dns transfer stuff still not resolved? Quote
Head Guru Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Make sure your home page is titled index.html and make sure your uploading to the www or public_html folder Quote
seaofbass Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 Ok, I did rename my homepage. So this is weird. . . The entire site, according to cpanel, is the public html folder, but I get "404" errors when I type in the name. I just cleared my cache, so apparently this is how it really is right now. the way it works when I publish from I web is creates a folder called [domain name], with a folder inside called "site", and then inside that are all the files for the site (the .htmls, the video files, pics, etc.). When I FTP, I upload the [domain name] folder to public html, and that should be it, right? That's how it worked with the old host, at least. Maybe it's different now? Quote
seaofbass Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 (edited) OK gang, I don't know how I did this, but apparently I had two index.html files. One inside the [domain name] folder, and the other inside the site folder. I trashed the whole folder republished, uploaded the index.html from within the site folder, and now it seems to work fine. I'm just wondering, does the stuff that goes live HAVE to be in the public HTML root directory, or can it be inside a folder inside public html? By default, Iweb creates a folder called "site" that it puts all the site content (htmls, files) inside, so I have to upload the site folder to public html, putting all the site content inside public_html/Site/. Will that work too? Or should it be organized like public_html/(site content)? Anyway, thanks for all your help. Edited March 22, 2009 by seaofbass Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 public_html/Site/. Will that work too? Or should it be organized like To access something like that you would have to enter ht*p://your-domain.ext/Site/ to get to it. Your main content should go in public_html but you can use folders as well. Quote
