joecav Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I am an admitted noob at all this and many can confirm this from my other posts...how the heck can you "optimize" your search engine rank? I thought you put keywords in your web page and when peeps searched for those words...poof...your website came up. Magic! I'm all for free enterprise and don't begrudge anyone that wants to make some $$$, but other than meta tags and "registering" your site with a search engine is there anything you can do to improve your rank? Please don't read this post as a knock to your service. That's not what I intended. I just want to know that I did everything I could to get my site the exposure everyone wants. Quote
leezard Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 this explains it better than i can Search engine optimixation overview if you have already read that then the SEO guru will be the one to answer your question better than I could. Quote
joecav Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 I actually found that after my initial post. It explains things well enough for me. Sorry for any confusion. Quote
TCH-Don Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Joe there has been a lot of disscusion on the forum about that very subject. See Web Site Promotion. Also on the Total Choice Web Hosting site there is a very good over view of what you can do besides the keywords. Its not as easy as just adding key words, as I too am finding out. I have a lot to learn, and thanks to this place I am slowy getting there. Quote
SEO Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 I thought you put keywords in your web page and when peeps searched for those words...poof...your website came up. Magic! Well it would work that way if there were not so many darn pages! For example, if we do a Google search using the phrase 'Sales Leads', we find that there are 2.21 million pages in the Goggle index for this specific phrase. Now Google has written these sophisticated algorithms to 'rank' these pages in order of relevancy. Relevancy is defined by many different visual and non-visual characteristics of a web page (and site). Proper optimization maximizes the rank of a given page/site for a particular search phrase(s) (e.g. 5th instead of number 2,209,999th for say 'sales leads' ). As others have suggested, there is quite a bit of information right here at Total Choice Web Hosting. Make sure you read all the pinned topics within this forum (Web Site Promotion), that will give you a good start. [P.S. Saw a typo on you 'Why Us' page: Companies Who Needs Our Services] Quote
