It's the Rookie again!! (that should be obvious since I used Adam instead of Atom. DUH!!)

My question does not really pertain to anything Website related, but the forum says "Anything" right?

I have a lot of digital pics on my hard drive. The folder is currently almost 2GB. I have them backed up onto another hard drive, but I really would like to also move them to an off site backup.

Is there a way to easily and inexpensivly burn the folder across several CDRW's without having to manually keep track of the amount of files I can put on each CD? Does someone have a better, more inventive method?

I appreciate any input you might be able to give.

Have a Blessed day!!

Gary

not sure how you'd go about it without having to keep track of how much data your putting on a CD, but one thing I would suggest is using winzip or something to zip them up into a smaller package, then you can fit more files onto a cd.

There's a solution at http://www.pictureflow.com/ArchiveCreator/...es/AC-Main.html

it's called picture flow archive creator.

It's not free however so I'd check up some reviews before purchasing it.

It claims to span millions of gigabytes worth of images accross multiple media [cd/dvd etc.]

Has loads of additional features aswell.

If you need regular back ups might be worth it.

If you want to look further use keywords like

SPAN MULTIPLE MEDIA ARCHIVE BACKUP

in google.

It will return plenty of results for you to sift through.

Personally I found a DVD Writer to be the solution, sony and others have just released multi format writers that can use +/- discs so you can create multi session backups.

If you find this or other shareware useful, let us know in the freebies section of this forum.

Thanks

Thumbs Up

BackupNOW! by NTI http://www.ntibackupnow.com/default.asp

I've been using it for 3 years now and it does an amazing job of using CD media for backups - and yes, it spans all by itself! As a matter of fact, it also supports my DVD burner and and will span those (for backups larger than the capacity of the disc). Several of my clients now use BackupNOW! for archiving their server backups and one client uses only CD backups (no magnetic tape media, no expensive tapes,etc.).

Hope that helps.

lstover's link worked for me originally but is now dead?

Sound like their site might be offline. . .
