Andrew Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 One of my sites, www.penguinbooks.com, got defaced yesterday. (I just noticed it.) Anyway, the hackers were kind enough to simply rename my index file so restoration was simple. But, of course, I'm worried. They didn't leave a lot of useful info, except maybe this: * uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root) hey admin, UpDate your system noW, or contact us... "urgent" *Should* I worry? Quote
TCH-JimE Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Andrew, I will make Head Guru aware of this, but I hope your password is not only hard to crack (needs to be 8 letters long, a mixture of words, numbers and characters, not names or dates etc) and that you have no FTP's open with simple passwords and last but not least, you have permissions set correctley on your folders Jim Quote
Head Guru Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Looking into this now. I have the datacenter and two admins looking. Will update soon. Quote
Andrew Posted July 26, 2003 Author Posted July 26, 2003 I don't have ANY FTP accounts (except for the one that I use), and the password is at least 8 character and a mix of letters and numbers. Hmm... Anyway, not a big deal, although I want to be sure all is well. Thanks! Andrew Quote
