LeeGoldsmith Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Here is my problem: 1. I have a subdomain called "lfp" (for Lee's Fishing Page), This is my published web site, in this directory I have a forum (Simple Machines) in a sub directory of "lfp" called "forum". 2. I also have a subdomain called "cms" (for Content Management System) and I have duplicated my site using "phpWebSite" content management software. Can I move the forum directory from "lfp" to "cms" without any problems? Can I then rename "lfp" to "oldlfp" and then rename "cms" to "lfp"?? If someone can give me the steps to make this work it would be great. Thanks Lee Quote
TCH-Andy Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Hi Lee, Doing what you suggest will be fine for the forum (because that basically ends up in exactly the same place. In the cms directory, that you will rename, it depends on the methods used for links etc. I had a quick look in your cms folder, and it all seems to be relative links - so it should be fine. The quickest way to be sure, is to move it - you can always move it back Quote
LeeGoldsmith Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Thanks Andy What about the subdomains, do I need to remove them first and then recreate them or do I do nothing and the renaming will keep them OK?? Thanks again Lee Quote
LeeGoldsmith Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 Just floating this to the top again with the hope someone can respond to my question about sub-domains. Lee Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 You can create new sub domains which will create folders of the sub domain name. You can then delete the folder it creates and rename your existing folder the name of the sub domain. Then remove the old sub domain. And please don't bump threads! Quote
TCH-JimE Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Personnally I would that thought that the best thing to do would be to backup your current subdomains, then remove them and reinstall new subdomains and then copy everything else backover. Just avoids any minor problems if something does not get correctley re-written. JimE Quote
stevevan Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Of course it's always a good idea to make backups before you start ANY reconfiguration of a site! Quote
