Is it possible to set up an e-mail forwarder to forward to multiple recipients? That is:

bob1@mysite.com --> bob1@newsite.com, joe1@thissite.com, sam1@thatsite.com, jane1@whichsite.com

Sorry for being so "slow" but, do I ...

1. Set up a single forwarder with one 'forward from' address and multiple 'forward to' addresses? If so, how do I format the 'forward to' list -- separated by commas?

OR

2. Set up multiple forwarders with the same 'forward from' address and unique 'forward to' addresses?

What I'm trying to do is have an address that is a notification address for our employees -- they send an e-mail to a single address. That e-mail would then be automatically (that's the key -- I don't want to have to 'touch' the e-mails) distributed to a list of 8-10 different addresses. If e-mail forwarders is not the right tool, can the mailing list feature be used for this purpose?

I believe you will need to set up them separately.

And no worries about being slow. ;)

Thanks for the quick responses. I've done some testing and it seems that both ways work just fine. I first set up separate forwarders for each unique 'forward to' address and that worked. Then, just for the heck of it, I tried setting up a single forwarder with multiple 'forward to' addresses separated by commas -- and, whaddaya know, that also worked like a charm.

Might be worth adding to the Mail tutorial and to the Forwarding Maintenance page.

So far, my account with TotalChoiceHosting has worked without a glitch. Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I was happy to discover that a single forwarders with multiple 'forward to' addresses works. It's a lot easier than setting up multiple forwarders.

Glad you found the answer that makes it easier for you to build/maintain your forwards.

Welcome to the forums!

My experience has been that when I add multiple TO addresses in the forward field, that each is added to the list separately. So later when you view your list of forwards, there are 2 (or 3 or more) separate entries for one forward alias. That allows you to remove one of the TO addresses easily.

It also allows you to add more addresses as target TO addresses for an alias without having to remove the previous entry and retype all the addresses that you want the alias to forward to.

But yes, both ways work. One's just a lot faster and easier to manage.
