Hi,

My wife, using MS Outlook 2K, seems to be sending an attachment labled WINMAIL.DAT

I don't have this attachment. We both use TCH as the host for e-mail.

Also, sometimes her normal attachments are not visible via TCH Webmail, but visible through other MS Outlook clients.

I suspect that she has some bizarre Outlook setting.

Any suggestions? What would cause the normal attachments to become only visible via another MS Outlook client as opposed to vanilla TCH Webmail?

Thanks

I found this on google, give it a try and see if it helps.

Ever wonder where WINMAIL.DAT attachments come from? It's a Microsoft Exchange "feature". Since Exchange supports rich-text email (bold, italic, multiple fonts, etc.), and Internet email doesn't, any email sent from Exchange to a non-Exchange mail reader will contain an Attachment called WINMAIL.DAT. If you use Exchange, you won't see this file, and the message will retain its formatting. However, it can be confusing for those who don't use Exchange (You, I, and the majority of the Internet population), and have no use for this file.

In MS Outlook and Outlook Express:

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format (or "Send") tab.

Under the Send tab is the message format list, select Plain Text or HTML(NOT Rich Text Format), and then click OK.

let me know if that works, there were several sites about this issue and that was the first one i saw that gave some type of fix.

I know this is a late reply, but I just saw this topic today.

If you get a winmail.dat or .ms-tnef attachment to an email, here's fast, web-based solution (and you don't even have to complain to the original sender!):

Go to the MS-TNEF Degenerator. You can upload your file, then download the actual enclosure. It has worked great for me many times.

Hope this helps!
