Guest mcm Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Hello, I would like to sign up with TCH. When I went to register, the form asked for a domain name. Since I already have a domain name that I'd like to keep using, I went to the domain name transfer page form to transfer my domain to TCH. When I enter my domain name (which I got from domainsbyproxy) I get a message: Domain name already under registrar management. Since I have not yet had any dealings with TCH, haven't a clue what this means. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Hi, Who did you registar the domain name with? Jim Quote
Guest mcm Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 I registered my domain name with Domains by Proxy (www.domainsbyproxy.com). Quote
TCH-JimE Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Hi, What you need to do is sign back up and dont choose to transfer the dot.com over. You will then recieve your welcome email. In the welcome email, will be two nameservers, which according to the www.domainsbyproxy.com website, you can enter into your domain name with them which once entered and filtered through the net (standard 72hrs applies here) your site will be live to the world! Look foward to having you as part of the family! Jim Quote
Guest Guest Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 On the first page of the TCH signup form, there is a "Domain Name" field. Is this for people who are registering a new domain name with you? In other words, should I enter my existing domain name when I sign up for a plan, or should I just leave that part blank? Thanks! Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Just enter your existing domain name. and welcome to the family! Quote
Guest mcm Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Thanks very much. I've signed up for a TCH account (am waiting for my welcome email) and have initiated domain name transfer. Quote
TCH-Sales Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Good to hear you got things worked out, welcome to the family! Kick Me Kick Me Kick Me Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Just a heads up: Be sure and answer any emails you receive on the domain transfer from both the old and new registrar. There are three parties that have to agree to a transfer, the old registrar, the new registrar, and the registrant (you.) Failing to answer the emails will cause it to fail and you have to start over. Welcome to TCH. Quote
Guest mcm Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Okay, just to clarify. I received this from my original registrar: "The modifications you requested for the domain [my domain] were successful. The nameservers for [my domain] are now: NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM Changes may take 24-48 hours to be visible on the Internet. You do *not* need to respond to this email. If, however, you think this change may have been made in error or fraudulently, please contact us immediately." I take it I do *not* have to reply to this? Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 No, you don't have to respond to that. You've just changed the nameservers with your existing registrar. That will work fine once the changes have propagated. Transferring a domain is a little more complicated and refers to changing the registrar and not just the nameserver. You should be fine. Welcome, again. By the way, I registered a new domain this morning and just noticed that I can see the site. New domains propagate a little quicker than existing ones. Thumbs Up Quote
Invisible Adjunct Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 Hello, I can view an Index/ plus Parent Directory and folders at my URL http://www.invisibleadjunct.com (and also at the other URL you gave me to use before propagation -- ie, numbers plus user id). But I have not yet received any other emails concerning the domain name transfer. Should I assume that my domain transfer has not yet propagated? The reason I am concerned: I am in the middle of registering with Movable Type for a paid installation of their blog software (too complicated for me). I don't want them to install in the wrong place. So I am worried about this: "Failing to answer the emails will cause it to fail and you have to start over." Thank you. (mcm) Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 (edited) If you can see your index when you put in your domain name you are ready to go. There was a misunderstanding of the terms. Transferring a domain generally refers to changing the company that handles that domain. Since you have changed the nameservers with your registrar all is well. Sorry to have confused you. Transferring ownership does require answering the emails in order for it to take place while changing the nameservers is usually a matter of the user editting the settings with the registrar and no further action is needed.
