thehemi Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Beginning once the move was made from Server77 to Server377 it appears that there's a BUNCH of spam that gets through the SpamAssassin filters. I double checked that I'm configured the same way. I would very rarely get any junk mail on Server77 (except in my spam box) but I'm getting a TON of junk mail that gets through the SpamAssassin filters on Server377. Is something different on this new server? If we were talking one or two, no problem, but I'm getting a LOT of them. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Hello Scott, I think the best way to find out whats going on, is if you submit a ticket to the helpdesk so the techs can verify that everything (spamassassin in this case) have been properly installed. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 You may also want to check your settings cPanel to be sure your SA configuration transferred properly. Quote
thehemi Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 I created a trouble ticket and was told everything is setup correct. The vast majority of the spams getting through are the "Pharmacy" emails with "Pharmacy" misspelled in various ways. Is there a nice regex that could catch "Pharmacy" with a space in any given spot in the word? That might help... Quote
Madmanmcp Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 The "Pharmacy" emails are getting to be a real pain, thats for sure. I click on block selection in SpamKiller every time I get one and it has not been able to block them yet. I took a quick look at a batch of them and have decided that there is no way to block them because of all the changes they are doing to each one...they are all different each and every time. They use pictures for the letters, they put in spaces at different places, they change the spelling by using different letters and characters. What surprises me is that this would work at all! Who in there right mind would be able to read what is there and want to purchase it. To me it seems like a total waste of time even sending them out. I was actually hoping that they would find out that no one was actually buying anything from reading it and stop. But they haven't Quote
abinidi Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 This is why I use the Gmail client for all my mail. Gmail does a great job of filtering out the SPAM that I get. All of my forwarders on my domains point to Gmail accounts. Very little SPAM gets through. Somthing you might consider, at least. Quote
Madmanmcp Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 This is my original email account from Prodigy that I've had since 1989. They don't have mail forwarding so sending to another account is not an option. I'm also not sure that gmail would be blocking them all either. Quote
Deverill Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Gmail does great for me. It keeps 30 days of spam and in that 30 days I have 3364 spams. Of course about 8-12 stock/investing/microcap spams get through - that's the Gmail boggle right now. They are having a hard time identifying it all the time. Quote
stevevan Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Another good one. I set up an email account on BellSouth for my son last week. He just arrived home today. We opened up his email (using Thunderbird of course!) and he had 38 email messages...all spam! Quote

Is something different on this new server? If we were talking one or two, no problem, but I'm getting a LOT of them. I'm getting hundreds a day in my catch-all account. They are sending the same message over and over again to randomly chosen user names at my domain. SpamAssassin doesn't even appear to be processing them. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'd suggest setting your catchall address to :fail: and then create an email address for yourself and either forwards, or email accounts for any legitimate ones you want. That will then remove all the randomly chosen user names. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Hello, I use thunderbird email client with the junk mail controls turned on. Works a treat. JimE Quote
surefire Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I use thunderbird too, but lately the spam has been getting through. Quote
