I have been having a problem with my Verizon DSL staying connected. I have and onboard ethernet connection. It started slowly, where 3-4 times a day i would have to go to my network connection and repair it and things would work fine. When it started happening evey 10-20 min. it made me mad and I started running my connection with a wireless pci card though my router. When it started happening with that card, I installed a NIC card that came with my Verizon modem. It started again. Several times aday, I lose my connection and I have to go to my Network connections and repair it.

At first, I thought it was possibly a problem with my onboard ethernet port on my motherboard. That is why I had switched to my wireless card and now my pci nic card. So i took the computer back to the place I bought and had my motherboard installed. They was to busy to look at it till Tuesday, but said that from the sound of it he was 80% sure that it was a software problem and that I probably had spyware or a virus.

I have ran spybot search and destroy, lavasoft adware 6 and my Nortons Anti-virus (full scan). We went 4 hours fine then bam! Lost connection again.

Any ideas? Hardware? Software?

While I despise Verizon and their slow DSL service, and ours has been going down rather frequently lately, it hasn't been THAT frequently. I don't have an answer for you but wanted to wish you luck figuring out the problem.

Thanks, hearing that someone else has had this problem or is having this problem gives me another direction to look. Maybe there is a bad line or something coming in from Verison and that is causing me to lose my signal.

If you have a problem with staying connected the first place to start would be with Verizon. They will run you thru the trouble shooting steps to determine where the problem resides. It could be anywhere from their lines to your hardware drivers.

When you loose connection are you loosing synch on your modem?

There can be many factors that can cause DSL to loose connection.

Does your connection drop when someone calls you or when someone is talking on the phone. IF so this could be a bad line filter. Replace the line filter.

Do you have any Florescent lights near your DSL modem? If so remove them, they can actually cause interference.

Do you know how far your house if from the telephone central office. Sometimes their can be a issue with the copper between your house and the telco.
