Guest Mr.VeryInterested Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 I have a domain hosted on another server and would like to maintain the integrity of the directories and files by also transfering their existing permissions. Would you be able to do this....or how can I do this? Will I have complete global control of the files and directories that will exist in my space on your servers? I haven't done this so consider me a newbie..... Quote

Guest Mr.VeryInterested Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Lol, um...it has no "panel" of any sort..... your thought would have been sweet but a no-go. It is running Apache on Linux and I was wondering if there was a method to transfer files between two ftp sites (Site-to-Site transfers - fxp) and also piggyback the chmod information which would basically do a mirror image -one site to another. To just download all the files/directories from one server and then upload them to another server would not maintain the permission integrity in any form and could leave security holes, access problems, and possibly really screw up CGI script and execution accesses. Debugging script is no fun. If the site was little with few files then doing it by hand would be no problem but......there's lots of files of different breeds.. Quote

I know that there is getting to be more and more ftp programs that have the fxp support to do multi-stream direct server to server transfers ( SmartFTP comes to mind...and its free) and that would essentually cover doing the transfers in an even easier procedure but I am still unsure how these different methods handle ..the permissions.
