scottsgravy Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Hi, On your site is says, "...all new accounts are provisioned on our DELL Quad Processor 2.4GHz Intel Xeon Servers. That's over 9GHz of processing power per server. Featuring server class SCSI hard drives and 1GB - 6GB RAM..." I asked your live chat for the specs of the server I'd be on if I sign up today and was told "Opteron 242." I figured I'd ask in the forum to get the answer. Thanks. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 I will defer this to someone more knowledgeable but welcome to the forums. Quote
HCSuperStores Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 No way! Are we really doing Opterons! Way cool! Quote
TCH-Andy Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 The recent servers are Dual processor, AMD Opteron Processor 242, 1603.657 MHz so they are blisteringly fast Quote
MikeJ Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 The recent servers are Dual processor, AMD Opteron Processor 242, 1603.657 MHz so they are blisteringly fast <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Note for those not up on their processor technology... Opteron's are 64-bit processors, Xeons in use here are 32-bit, so there is an improvement there (not to mention Opteron's are AMD, Xeons are Intel, so 1.6 Ghz AMD is faster than 1.6 Ghz Intel, because of the way the processors handle instructions differently). Bottom line, though... regardless of what server you end up on, the number and type of accounts is scaled per server to make sure that everyone has adequate resources. Quote
HCSuperStores Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 The Intel Xeon is no slouch of a chip, however, AMD Opterons have been able to pull a marked increase over the Xeon, especially when analyzing web server type of traffic. I want my own dual-opteron server! (mine ... all mine!!!!!) Quote
