Samrc Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Just got two new computers (one in the office, one at home) and am starting the process of installing software before I move my data over. Both of the new computers will be running Windows XP professional. In my old ME machine, I had problems when I installed to many fonts. How about XP? Since I use my machines for work and play I use many styles on it. Any advice before I install? -Samantha Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 I dont have any advice on that since I dont have to many fonts myself, sorry for that. I just wanted to congratulate on getting new computers. Quote

Since I use my machines for work and play I use many styles on it. Have you tried using the Adobe Type Manager for Windows? It can be a little confoozling to use, but it can help on systems where you need a bunch of fonts installed, but you don't necessarily need them all active at once. I am a certifable font addict (but as a graphic designer, thats not a bad thing!) and it seems to have helped quite a lot. Quote
danceswithscissors Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 I have a little over 7000 fonts installed in my Windows XP fonts folder. ME and 2000 would never have let me get away with that. The only difficulty I have is that it takes my email clients and paint programs a little bit longer to open, but that means OE takes 45 seconds instead of 5, so I live with it to have free access to all my fonts. Yes, Rob, I DO need them all, I use them by the hundreds daily. LOL Quote
Sheila Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 I have a large number of fonts in a folder on my HD, although I recently weeded them out & reduced them to about 1500. Ruthless Only the original fonts that came with Windows are actually installed - I browse myfolder/subfolders for what I want to use & open it then minimise it. That way it appears in my list for the duration & I'm not slowing down the loading of any program You can use a font program (there are several that I'm sure people here will have advice on for you) but this way works fine for me.
