Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Before i start...what a nice way of doing hosting with a friendly forum and technicians on board to help out Great idea i think Right down to business I have my own domain which i transferred sucessfully to another host which then didnt supply any tech support for the simple restoration of my phpbb mysql forum I am now looking for another provider for a very small website (Approx 5 megs) and a busy forum ..approx 25 gig per month bandwidth I keep the forum to a reasonable size between 100-150 megs by pruning every couple of months Would your company be able to accomodate me with what i need and a little bit of tech support just for the restoring of my forum mysql database? Im not the most clued up on mysql databases and am really worried about losing my database etc Many thanks Alan Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Hi, First of all, welcome to the forum. I think TCH can accomodate your site very well. As far as I can tell by looking at your bandwidth requirements, the deluxe plan is what you are wanting. As for transfer the forum. TCH does not provide any tech support for scripts (forum in this case), but if your current host uses cpanel, the TCH techs should be able to try moving your site to the TCH servers. Otherwise there are plenty of people here in the forum that can give you advice and instructions on what to do. Quote
Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 The only backup i have is a .SQL Backup file...the reason i had to change hosts in the first place is that that they would not give me access to phpmyadmin/CPanel to extract the individual tables I emailed over 30 times over a period of 4 months but still nothing So would I be left in trouble then? Alan Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Ok. I see no problem in this. In the very worst case you would need to backup your sql database to your own computer and then upload it here in your cpanel and there are plenty of people here who will tell how to do that. Quote
Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 Thats brilliant and if i run into trouble youll be there 2 help out thats the re-assurance i needed err some extra info the .sql size is currently 177 meg why i didnt prune it before changing i dont know...will this have any effect? I can't stress enough how nervous all this mysl stuff is making me There wont be any issues with it being a UK domain or paying from the UK? I cant see it as you have a european section anyway Also it is order online , credit card etc? Sorry for all of these questions Alan Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 (edited) I can not personally guarantee there wont be problems, its just that I have been here myself for about 1.5 years and no problem that havent been solved (the family forum have 4000+ members willing to help, so someone always know the answer). There should not be any problems with being from the UK. I am myself from sweden and there are plenty of UK people here. Credit cards or paypal are the paying methods I believe. TCH-Don Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Welcome to the forums Alan You should be able to create the database in cpanel > MySql and create the user and then add user to the database. then in PhpMyAdmin (located at the bottom of the MySql page) you can import your database. Also in cpanel > backup there is a place to download and restore backups of your databases. As Thomas said, there are plenty of family here to help. Hope to see you here soon. Quote
Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 As i said my ex hosts didnt provide me with phpmyadmin to download each table..this im left with phpbb's full backup which is a whopping 177meg I left them cos they wouldnt tell me my details and then made the mistake of choosing a host that woudnt provide any tech support at all for restoring my forum so as you can imagine ive been tearing my hair for for 2 weeks and getting more and more frustrated I just wish someone could have a look at my backup file and say wether itll work or not Alan Quote
TCH-Rob Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 It will probably time out if you tried to do a restore at that size. What I would do is open a ticket explaining the situation and ask if you can send us the file to have it restored. They may just have you FTP it to your site and then take it from there. Best bet would be to ask and see what they say. Quote
Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 star studded performance..ill try that right now I didnt know i could start a help ticket not having signed up yet Alan Ill let you know what they say Quote

Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 On the forum its says the deluxe package is 12 gigs bandwidth on the main site it says 35 gigs is it defintly 35? Alan Quote
GroovyFish Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Hi Alan and Welcome to the family! Were you reading an old forum post? TCH doubled the bandwidth on all accounts in May, so if you are looking at a post older than that, that would explain the difference. Quote
Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 ahhh that would probably explain it lol cheers matey Alan Quote
Zoneraver Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 All ordered and soon to be paid for mind you with me messing up the ordering bit and payment coming from my mate Barriejay its gonna confuse everybody at TCH sorry everybody Alan Quote
