  6. With just the replies from the tech guys Im glad i moved hosts to here I just wish UK hosts had some politeness instead of the usual answering machine type reply Alan
  7. Newbie I have just transferred to TCH and i have a UK domain I talked with the peeps on the forum and got great responses which really put me at ease considering i was swapping a largeish MYsql phpbb forum and also i had a bad experience from a host which i had decided to swap to everything swapped over took a couple of days like normal the first day it had finally swapped over...my forum was up and running by 3pm 177 meg mysql file restored within 5 hours including the hiccup and email chats regarding the task ..the hiccup was no ones fault thats a big database and thats the speed of their support Nuff said..im a happy person having transferred to tch Alan PS My forums faster too...bonus
  8. I have never used windows firewall yet as it let things through which i didnt want even though id closed the ports On stand alones I usually use zone Alarm which did have its annoyances with msn messenger and other proggies I mainly use ISA server now but even that is strange as you can have 2 duplicate servers setup exactly the same (apart from the networking obvious (IP/Hostname etc)) i connected them to the router so both had full access to the net both were installed and setup exactly the same step by step BUT the differences were totally wild 1 allowed irc 1 not (All configs correct) etc etc etc you get the picture for a lot of progs that needed port access The only sure way of sorting it was to first install proxy 2.0 get it perfect then upgrade to isa as it picked up the settings!!! Sorry im blabbing again Alan
  9. My experience is mainly Windows based server/workstations and Novell 3.11 and currently upgrading yet again over the years to 6.5 As novell is naff to have at home I use Windows 2000 Server & ISA to provide security( ) for Net connectivity and firewall for a number of PC's used by my family (Yes im back at my Mums Groan dont ask) Im currently learning Mandrake which is easy to network etc i find it hard for learning databases as a lot of Nix peeps on sites seem to prefer to keep their knowledge to themselves I am really basic at apache and not bad at sendmail..the trouble is all this needs learning in a proper workplace with actual enviroments where things can be implemented to properly learn to implement these things i reckon Thats why i prefer the dumb approach as the things you can learn are endless by just watching with a keen eye and taking note of eveything you are being shown. I recently started a new job which is mainly windows and Novell servers but they have a web section with linux even with the windows/novell systems you have to re-learn all over again as thr set up is different but im also taking note of the linux procedures/configs Take my forum database that needed restoring...you lot did it quicker than i can eat my tea err me err ive managed to isolate and restore my users from the backup to my own server err that took me 2 weeks lolololol..well i gotta learn somewhere Ive also just noticed the length of this post..sorry i blah blahed on but you know what i mean Fave OS Windows 2000 Alan
  10. Ive also sent a thankyou to the helpdesk as well Alan
  11. After the disaster that was my first choice of host i came across this website with its helpful forums and techs that are mods on the forum I thought it was a good sign Well i wasnt wrong helpful staff Brilliant tech support which apart from a minor hiccup which wasnt anyones fault was solved in no time at all I cant fault anything at all as i was given the attention that any company should give its customers 10 outta 10 Alan
  12. one thing it says my domain is still with streamline which makes me cringe at the though I thought it was going to transferred to TCH my nre hosts like the other times ive swapped domains over Am i missing something? Alan

  16. Cheers everyone Alan
  17. I Already have my domain and have transfered it to TCH on my email it say If you have transferred your domain to TotalChoice, you >MUST visit your registrar and update your DNS >pointers to the following I understand the theory but what is my registrar? how do i point from my hosts to yours? sorry if this is a really silly question guys lol Alan
  18. All ordered and soon to be paid for mind you with me messing up the ordering bit and payment coming from my mate Barriejay its gonna confuse everybody at TCH sorry everybody Alan

  21. It looks like im in business they wont help with web design or hosting or anything which is fine as its a standard thing But they will help with my restoring my forum Ill be signing up tonight Thanks everybody for all your help with my worries The way the company is ran with this excellent forum for help is excellent and i got the info i needed in no time at all err one thing i was filling in my credit card details as part of the sign up thingy and decided to get a drink..i come back upstairs and my mum has closed the window and now i cant eneter my details as it says my domain has already been allocated for transfer bit embarassing that Alan
  22. star studded performance..ill try that right now I didnt know i could start a help ticket not having signed up yet Alan Ill let you know what they say
  23. As i said my ex hosts didnt provide me with phpmyadmin to download each table..this im left with phpbb's full backup which is a whopping 177meg I left them cos they wouldnt tell me my details and then made the mistake of choosing a host that woudnt provide any tech support at all for restoring my forum so as you can imagine ive been tearing my hair for for 2 weeks and getting more and more frustrated I just wish someone could have a look at my backup file and say wether itll work or not Alan
  24. Thats brilliant and if i run into trouble youll be there 2 help out thats the re-assurance i needed err some extra info the .sql size is currently 177 meg why i didnt prune it before changing i dont know...will this have any effect? I can't stress enough how nervous all this mysl stuff is making me There wont be any issues with it being a UK domain or paying from the UK? I cant see it as you have a european section anyway Also it is order online , credit card etc? Sorry for all of these questions Alan
  25. The only backup i have is a .SQL Backup file...the reason i had to change hosts in the first place is that that they would not give me access to phpmyadmin/CPanel to extract the individual tables I emailed over 30 times over a period of 4 months but still nothing So would I be left in trouble then? Alan
