TCH-Thomas Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 (edited) In the internet world, is a 4/1 Mbps connection fast? Dont ask me which way 4 Mbps is and which way 1 Mbps is. Why I ask is because from October 1st, my isp upgraded to those speeds and now I almost only have to think"open thunderbird" and my emails are downloaded. Edited October 10, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 yeah thats fast 4/1 = 4Mbs down/ 1Mbps up My connection is 3.2Mbps down and 256K up Quote
vengavenga Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Yep, Tiscali here in Spainstarted doubling speeds of all ADSL connections for no extra cost a couple of weeks ago - mine was activated today. Was 2mbit, now 4 Would rather they kept it at 2 and halved the price though Ali. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 10, 2004 Author Posted October 10, 2004 Yow,where is that drooling smilie I guess I shouldnt tell this, but... It gets doubled in 2 weeks (or hopefully the coming week, depending on when I get the new modem) and the extra cost is very very little. Thanks everyone. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 a LOT of ISP's are starting to up their speeds to stay competitive, I just wish mine would Quote
jandafields Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 I wonder how long it will be until we look at people with slow 4Mb connections like we do with people currently at 56k... Quote
oompahloompah Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 That would be -pretty- long. Wow Thomas you've got one heck of an Internet connection there. Quote

TCH-Thomas Posted October 12, 2004 Author Posted October 12, 2004 I just remebered I had one more question about this. In quick time for instance you can set connection speeds like: 768 Kbps DSL/Cable 1 Mbps Cable 1.5 Mbps Cable T1/Intranet/LAN With speeds like 8/1 Mbps, what should I set these connection speeds to? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 The highest one 1.5 Mbps Cable T1/Intranet/LAN Quote
mr_lucas Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 well with speeds like 8/1 any would be good but I would put it to 1Mbps for the reason that if you set it higher you might suffer from connection loss because quick time will be asking for more and your system might not be able to handle that type of traffic. Plus 1 Mbps is good no video on the web will surpass that everybody is stuck on slow mode like me with 384Kbps-1.5Mbps / 128Mbps Quote

Many new machines come with 1000Mbps LAN ports and handle them fine. Quote
