Geuis Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 I need help quick. I'm flying out to Atlanta in about an 1 1/2 hours. I created a folder in the public_html folder called nycpics. I then uploaded a test html file called index.html. My DNS entries for my domain have not progagated for some reason yet, but that's a side issue. When I use the assign IP 66.36.231.133 to access the site, I get the normal cpanel no page setup yet screen. However, if I try to access 66.36.231.133/public_html or 66.36.231.133/public_html/nycpics, I get 404 errors. I then verified that the folder and file are uploaded via the cpanel file management control panel. I'm really confused here. I've never had such a hard time setting up a website than I have with this company. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Quote
vengavenga Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Hi, Hope this help reaches you in time Try 66.36.231.133/~username (replacing "username" for your real username which you should edit out of your previous posts for security reasons, just to be on the safe side). Hope that helps Ali. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Hi try 66.36.231.133/~username/nycpics where username is your cpanenl username. Quote
vengavenga Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Just seen that you've already found out what I suggested in my post. You won't have to access the site that way when the domain has propogated It'll all be OK in 24-72 hours (nothing to do with TCH though, just the way the net works!). In the meantime, at least you'll be able to access your site via the method that you've discovered ... Ali. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 The ~username is only necessary when using the IP address (which is a shared IP) before the domain has propagated. Once the domain has propagated the format will be http://******/nycpics/ for that directory. You also could set up a subdomain so it could be reached at http://nycpics.****** after the domain has propagated. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 In your welcome e-mail there are instructions on viewing and using ftp before propagation This is what is mine ========================================== Access your Site ========================================== To access your site before the domain name completes propagation you can go to the URL below to view your site. http://209.152.171.64/~myusername/ (use the IP from your welcome e-mail) ========================================== FTP Instructions: ========================================== You can begin uploading your files at: domain.ext or before domain name propagation 209.152.171.64 (use the IP from your welcome e-mail) Please use the same Username and Password as listed above. Files for public access (your website) must be uploaded to the public_html directory. Files and directories outside the public_html directory are not accessible to the public. The www directory is just a link to the public_html directory. Quote
