rbb213 Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Hi everyone!...As you can tell, I am kinda new to TCH... I love and admire the support that everyone has recieved, to and including myself in such a timely manner. KUDOS to all the TECHies..... Well now the questions... 1. After the 24-72hr migration period using the actual domain name...ie..My Webpage will the *.htm pages that I submitted will become active? Problem is, I added a index.htm page with a photo, but when I click on the link with the IP addy, I am getting the words with a little x to where the *.gif image I added is now appearing. 2. Do we have to use public_htm file folder that you guys set up?....or can we delete it, and start our own?... 3. Which is the initial folder for the webpage files that need to be added into for the whole world to see?... TIA Rocky Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Hi, 1. You will need to use http://ipnumber/~username as told in welcome email before the propagation is fully done. 2-3. Public_html is the folder you will need to use to have the world to see your site. In that you may create any folder you like though. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 (edited) Welcome to the family, Rocky! The files should be uploaded to the "public_html" folder. Your index file should be named either "index.html" or "index.php". As for the red "x", did you upload the image? Is the path to the image correct on your index page? If you uploaded the image to your public_html folder you would code the image link as such: If your image is in a sub folder then it would look like this: Edited September 7, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
rbb213 Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <div align="center"> <p>SITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION </p> <p><img src="images/Daytona%20MX-3.gif"> </p> </div> </body> </html> That is the coding that is on the index.htm page, but when i click on the http:...page, I am still getting the little x. the file is uploaded in the images folder. Could it be the Space?...or... Do I need to be more patient and let the site finish propragating?. the site name is www.redline.org TIA Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 May also be the case. Linux/Unix hosts are case sensitive so check the case. I would remove the space as well but you can use a "_" if you need clarity. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Welcome to the Family Rocky and your new home! You might try using an ftp program to look in your image folder to see exactly how the image name is. And I would avoid spaces and caps, as Rob says use an underline for seperation. We really are like family here. So if you need anything, just ask your new family! We love to help Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 I greatly appreciate all the warm welcomes! I looked at the html editor and made the neccessary changes....hmmmmm but still no luck...I copied the line for everyoen to see, but I still dont get it... <p><img src="images/daytonamx3.gif" width="686" height="426"></p> Oh yes, will I be notified once the proprogation is completed? TIA Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 can you see the image if you visit http://YOURIPADDRESS/~user/images/daytonamx3.gif Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 This is what I got.. Forbidden You don't have permission to access /~redline/images/daytonamx3.gif on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.31 Server at server80.totalchoicehosting.com Port 80 Also I keep getting a search page as the default for www.redline.org Is that uspposed to happen while the migration is still happening? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Also I keep getting a search page as the default for www.redline.org Is that uspposed to happen while the migration is still happening? That can happen during propagation. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Next question would be did you create the images folder and upload the image? If you answered yes then it should be displaying. Next, did you turn on hotlink protection? If yes, try turning it off. If after propogation it's still not working open a help desk ticket, link at top of page and have one of the techs take a peek. Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 HI Bruce Yes there is an images folder, with the files in there. Also the hotlink is turned off. Rocky Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I can not get to your images folder. Open a help desk ticket (link at top of page) and have one of the techs take a look. Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 Wow...that was pretty easy....... But now for the cliche'....When it rains it pours!.... I purchased this domain name...www.redline.org on saturday..through TCH...I checked every where for it, and it never showed up as being registered.. Good for me Right?....So I thought.. So with all this going on, ...I decided to do a who is check on the name again...and now the name is registered to someone else.... Im going to start pulling my hair out....HELP!!!! So this is what I am doing now..is I sent a support ticket back to TCH to find out whats my next move... Rocky Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 Mad!!! GRRRRRRRRRR... Someone say somethig to make me feel better....PLS Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 By looking at whois.sc I see Domain Name:REDLINE.ORG Created On:09-May-2003 14:38:59 UTC Last Updated On:09-Aug-2004 04:18:21 UTC Expiration Date:09-May-2006 14:38:59 UTC that domain was already purchased back in May of 2003. and it looks like renewed on Aug 9th of this year. Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 Now how did this happen or did I get mixed up in the head somewhere?...The TCH site let me put down www.redline.org as my site, and let me register it. now even if I did screw up, and purchased a name that was already taken, that should still mean, I should be able to purchase a name through Here. If I am reading the page correctly. or... 55 is just for the hosting plan, and no domain.... in which I will need to purchase a domain name? Rocky Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 And now not available till 06. The hard part is that if the server was down you would have never have known as it would look available. Now you will need to try and get another name and then open a ticket and we can make the changes for you. Now correct me if I am wrong please, If you purchase any hosting plan the domain is free right?......or did I get mixed up in the head somewhere? No, it is not included with hosting, can you show where it states free with hosting? I cannot see that part. 55 is for the yearly cost of hosting and domain is seperate. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 The page you linked to says FREE with every domain: • FREE! Change of Registration • FREE! Parked Page w/ Domain • FREE! Domain Name Locking • FREE! Status alerts No mention of hosting, just what is free when you buy a domain name. The hosting here is seperate from the domain name. When I entered redline.org it said that REDLINE.org (already taken, click here for info) Quote
rbb213 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 To clear myself up, I was typing without reading..... I just purchased the hosting site. Help me here on this, WHat I need to do is purchase the Domain name and that should fix everything. Am I right? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 A domain name yes, you cant get redline.org, it is already taken. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 (edited) I just checked on the totalchoicehosting.com page and you click on plans you see Please note that domain names are not included with any of our hosting plans. Your domain name must be purchased or transferred separately. Click here to purchase a domain name! It looks like you need to get another name and open a help ticket to tell them what domain name you end up with. Don't give up, they will get you set up. Edited September 7, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote
