Domain Pointing

Ok i have several domains that i wish to point at sub domains. Do i need to have those parked? Or is there something special i need to do?

Pointing domains at sub-folders/sub-domains is against the Acceptable Use Policy. You would need to purchase a reseller account or seperate hosting plans for each domain. =)

Resellers can use the Add-on domain feature to point additional domains at subdomains. On regular accounts we do not allow pointing multiple domains at separate pages, folders, or subdomains. We can park the additional domains but all must point to the main page of the primary domain.

so if i go from expert hosting to standard resellers i can point domains to sub domains? IS that a difficult change to make?

Not at all. Just submit a Helpdesk Ticket and let them know what you want and they will get you going.

Thanks Rob, Rick, and Lisa. I went to the family resellers category and now i am more confused then before? So lets say that i own a domain and its registered on godaddy.com.

 

I have a domain that is lets say **** and i have a subdomain that reads as mysubdomain.**** If i set it at godaddy to point to mysubdomain.**** because it is actually a folder under the main domain it wouldnt point there? Im pretty new to all this and it really has me confused. What don wrote in that section sounded very good and seems simple but i was still confused and unsure i am a total novice.

What I wrote was for resellers as they are allowed to have addons

Standard accounts are not allowed to have addons or

point a domain name to a folder or subdomain.

 

If you get a resellers account,

you can have your other domains as addons or seperate accounts that you create for them.

what if i wish to point a bunch of domains to the same page?

all domains pointing to the same site, not to subdirectories or subdomains or anything like that.

 

how can i accomplish that if i am handlingthe DNS for them?

bzzzz, ues this is possible. It's called "parking a domain".

 

What you do is point the DNS servers at your registrar to NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM and NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM and then open a Help Desk ticket and tell them the domain names you want to park on top of your existing domain.

is there another way than pointing it all to your DNS?

 

the IT guy wants to handle other services (email in particular) on the in-house servers.

the IT guy that manages the other services was trying to do an A record and it didn't work (due to not having our own non-shared IP address i believe), so he's going to try a CNAME instead. not sure if that'll work.

 

i like having the web hosting here though and plan to keep it that way.
