MitchO Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 Hi folks. I'm pretty much as novice as they come, writing only the most basic code directly into Notepad. I used the CPanel's default HTML to create a Guestbook: www.lennonokun.com/guestbook It works fine, but a few folks have said to me that they are used to Guestbooks where a visitor to the site can read all the comments. I have no objections to that, but i don't see anything in the code that will allow it. Is the problem that i used the "simple" guestbook? Quote
Ayman_ Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 I tried to look at your guestbook as you listed out, but only see a 404 page not found. Let me know. Quote

MitchO Posted March 19, 2003 Author Posted March 19, 2003 Anyone? I'm still hoping for an answer. Quote
Lianna Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Ithink that the simple guestbook is only for allowing the guest to leave an entry for YOU, not for display. Try out the Advanced Guestbook. You can see a test demo that I threw together. http://stoverdatasystems.us/aguest Lianna Quote
TCH-Rick Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Anyone? I'm still hoping for an answer. The Advanced Guestbook does offer many more options. I use the Simple Guestbook on one of my pages and it works fine for keeping up with who is on the site. I tried the following on my site and it worked fine so you might try it. I'll check it tomorrow and see if it works for me when I view from work. To add a View Guestbook option you can try adding this html to your page. <a href="http://domainname.com/cgi-sys/guestbook.cgi?action=listguests&user=TCHUser">View Guest Book</a> Replace the bold type info with your info. The TCHUser is the user name you use to get to the cPanel. It may be that the password is saved in my cookies so I'm not sure it will work for others but won't hurt to try. Editted - I just had Lianna check it out and it worked so if you are satisfied with just having a link to view the guestbook it should work for you. Quote
MitchO Posted March 20, 2003 Author Posted March 20, 2003 Hrm, so i'm basically just giving them the URL to the page i'd see when i sign in? As long as it works without giving the signin/pw, that should be OK ... i don't see the harm in putting my username up there. Thanks. =) Quote
