Boojum Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Who will be the first TCHer to find the "secret" page on my site? I should mention, one member at FICS did find it. So far, however, I have no indications that anyone else has. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Not hard at all, it took me all of 30 secs. I just viewed the source and searched for the word secret. Figured if there is a link then its in the code. Quote
DCS Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Not hard at all, it took me all of 30 secs. I just viewed the source and searched for the word secret. Figured if there is a link then its in the code. I did the exact same thing . Quote
DCS Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Well since Dick found it first, he wins the game! Congrats! Quote
Boojum Posted June 9, 2004 Author Posted June 9, 2004 Hmm. Perhaps I should have been a bit more specific. Who can find the page in the normal course of looking at the site? I think reading the source code could be considered cheating, strictly speaking, but it is my fault inasmuch as I failed to say so. In any case, there's room for more than one "winner" here. Quote
DCS Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Now that will be a challenge. I'll have to give it a try and get back to you. Quote
DCS Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 I found out where the secret page is without viewing the source, I won't say anything though -- just be to be fair! Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Boojum, we are techeis you know. We look for the fastest route to an answer. I will admit it wasnt too tough to find though. but a non techie may have a hard time. Your request is like me saying "Solve the code in my sig and I will PayPal you $10" A techie may have an easier time versus a regular non-technical person. Quote
Boojum Posted June 9, 2004 Author Posted June 9, 2004 Rob, I never said it was terribly tough to find. That's why I call it "the 'secret' page" rather than "the secret page." In reality, of course, there is no such thing as a secret on the internet. But it does make for a bit of light amusement to see if one can penetrate the "secrets." Quote
Deverill Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 I found it in about 10 seconds... 7 of those were loading speed In my browser it shows a wireframe globe in a black square and when I hover it says it's the secret page. Not too much of a challenge, eh? Quote
Boojum Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 What kind of browser are you using? I take it it's either non-graphical or you have set your preferences to exclude images. Otherwise, it wouldn't be quite so easy. Quote
borfast Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 (edited) Yep, I use Firefox too and it's right there in fron of me, "the'secret' page". You should learn that not everyone likes to use the same toy.. err... I mean, browser just because it comes with the other toy... err... I mean, operating system you use Edited June 10, 2004 by TCH-Raul Quote
Boojum Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 Ah. I seem to have misread Jim's description. Actually, the "wireframe globe in a black square" is a flag. It doesn't wave about because it's set in a space background, and there is no breeze in space. As for how much of a challenge it is: I think what I told Rob sums it up fairly well. Now, I wonder ... how many "non-techies" can find it? Quote
Boojum Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 You should learn that not everyone likes to use the same toy.. err... I mean, browser just because it comes with the other toy... err... I mean, operating system you use Er, Raul. You know I use a Mac, right? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 I think you need to hide it somewhere else, since too many screenshots has been published. Quote
Boojum Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 Perhaps. Either that, or just remove the reference to the page from the "title" tag. But then I suppose no one would find the page. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 (edited) But then I suppose no one would find the page. Sure they would, it would just take a little longer, that is if you clearly say on the secret page that it is the page they were looking for. Edited June 10, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
borfast Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Er, Raul. You know I use a Mac, right? You do? Oops... no, I didn't know that but in that case, what browser are you using? Quote
Boojum Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 I'm using exactly the browser you assumed: Microsplat Internet Exploiter. Although, of course, it didn't come with my OS. I have a pretty good excuse, though: It's the only usable browser that will run reliably with Mac OS 9.1 on a Power Mac 6500/250. I also have Netscape 4.77 and a sort of funky Mozilla-for-the-Mac—the most current versions of each that will run on this machine—but they aren't precisely impressive. (On the other hand, if anyone knows a good alternative, I'm willing to listen ... as long as the alternative isn't along the lines of "You use a Mac? What are you—some kind of Amish Luddite?" or the ever-popular "250 MEGAhertz? You living in the same millennium with the rest of us?") Quote
Deverill Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Sorry I've been busy lately. I am using FireFox. IE looks the same but the hover-text does not include the part about the hover page. It just looks like it should be clicked. Quote
