Who will be the first TCHer to find the "secret" page on my site?

I should mention, one member at FICS did find it. So far, however, I have no indications that anyone else has.

Not hard at all, it took me all of 30 secs. I just viewed the source and searched for the word secret. Figured if there is a link then its in the code.

I did the exact same thing .

Hmm. Perhaps I should have been a bit more specific.

Who can find the page in the normal course of looking at the site?

I think reading the source code could be considered cheating, strictly speaking, but it is my fault inasmuch as I failed to say so.

In any case, there's room for more than one "winner" here.

I found out where the secret page is without viewing the source, I won't say anything though -- just be to be fair!

Boojum, we are techeis you know. We look for the fastest route to an answer. I will admit it wasnt too tough to find though. but a non techie may have a hard time. Your request is like me saying "Solve the code in my sig and I will PayPal you $10" A techie may have an easier time versus a regular non-technical person.

Rob,

I never said it was terribly tough to find. That's why I call it "the 'secret' page" rather than "the secret page."

In reality, of course, there is no such thing as a secret on the internet. But it does make for a bit of light amusement to see if one can penetrate the "secrets."

I found it in about 10 seconds... 7 of those were loading speed

In my browser it shows a wireframe globe in a black square and when I hover it says it's the secret page. Not too much of a challenge, eh? :D

What kind of browser are you using? I take it it's either non-graphical or you have set your preferences to exclude images. Otherwise, it wouldn't be quite so easy.

Yep, I use Firefox too and it's right there in fron of me, "the'secret' page". ;)

You should learn that not everyone likes to use the same toy.. err... I mean, browser just because it comes with the other toy... err... I mean, operating system you use :P

Ah. I seem to have misread Jim's description.

Actually, the "wireframe globe in a black square" is a flag. It doesn't wave about because it's set in a space background, and there is no breeze in space.

As for how much of a challenge it is: I think what I told Rob sums it up fairly well. ;)

Now, I wonder ... how many "non-techies" can find it?

Er, Raul. You know I use a Mac, right?

Perhaps.

Either that, or just remove the reference to the page from the "title" tag.

But then I suppose no one would find the page.

Sure they would, it would just take a little longer, that is if you clearly say on the secret page that it is the page they were looking for.

You do? Oops... no, I didn't know that but in that case, what browser are you using? ;)

I'm using exactly the browser you assumed: Microsplat Internet Exploiter. Although, of course, it didn't come with my OS.

I have a pretty good excuse, though: It's the only usable browser that will run reliably with Mac OS 9.1 on a Power Mac 6500/250. I also have Netscape 4.77 and a sort of funky Mozilla-for-the-Mac—the most current versions of each that will run on this machine—but they aren't precisely impressive. <_<

(On the other hand, if anyone knows a good alternative, I'm willing to listen ... as long as the alternative isn't along the lines of "You use a Mac? What are you—some kind of Amish Luddite?" or the ever-popular "250 MEGAhertz? You living in the same millennium with the rest of us?")

Sorry I've been busy lately.

I am using FireFox. IE looks the same but the hover-text does not include the part about the hover page.

It just looks like it should be clicked. <_<
