  1. Windows is a fickle thing, I constantly have similar problems with networking as well. Give me two Linux boxes and I can have them running as one in under 20 minutes. However it takes me a month of Sundays just to get one Windows machine to recognize another on my messed up network here at home. Windows tends to ignore other machines if they're on different subnets, even if they have the same Workgroup name. I understand why, but I'm not really sure why there's no manual override or something like that for it. (If there is a manual override, I certainly haven't been able to find it!) I'm not sure also, if setting up a secondary local IP will help... since you have a router already, your machines should be running with local IP addresses (Like 192.168.0.101, 192.168.0.102 etc.) I guess first what I would do would be to make sure any firewalls are disabled on both machines, Then power both computers off, then power your router off, wait 5 minutes, turn the router on, turn one computer on, then turn the other computer on. Sometimes that will do it.
  2. Unfortunately IPB 1.3 hasn't been actively developed for quite a few years, so there's not a lot of people writing hacks/mods for it anymore. Spamming wasn't nearly as big of an issue back then as it is now, either. You might want to check out http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php/c/31 and see if you can find anything useful there, though.
  3. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!
  4. Every time someone caves into the MPAA, God kills a kitten.
  5. Hey Susan, I'm unable to confirm that your website in your signature is hosted with us so this will have to be handled by a non-staff member. Sorry.
  6. How are they connected? (Router, Hub, Switch, ICS, etc.)
  7. AVG? Yeah it is, They're just requiring you to upgrade to Version 7.5 before January 15.
  8. I've always been partial to using AVG's free virus scanner. It hasn't failed me in quite a few years. http://free.grisoft.com
  9. It's officially cold here in Wisconsin as of yesterday. Last night I wandered outside to take my sister-in-law home (she came over to watch a movie with my wife and I) and I finally exclaimed "Hey! It's cold out!") The temperature at the time of my annoucement was: 7° F or -14° C. I usually don't wear a jacket unless it's under 20° F
  10. Welcome! Basically what you're looking for is a "Post By E-mail" hack/addon for forum software. Something like this existed a long time ago for vBulletin (back in 2002), but I can't seem to find it anymore. If it still existed, it probably hasn't been maintained in quite awhile anyway. I found some mentions of a modification for phpBB that does something like this on google, but I think it was more of a "proof of concept" thing instead of an actual, working hack. You might have to just pick a forum software, and pay someone to create such a modification for you. Freelance coders aren't that hard to find, and most major forum software organizations have sub-forums on their sites to help you find such people (I know vBulletin does). Most forums will allow people to subscribe to an entire forum and they'll get e-mail alerts when threads are created and/or updated in those forums, so that part is covered. Personally I think the e-mail posting thing defeats the purpose of having a forum.
  11. Thanks, Bill. It's nice to be here, I'm really excited to meet & start working with everyone!
