You should be extremely careful about using those free submission tools and even some of the paid submission tools. Most people don't realize they can do far more damage than good because they often just spam the heck out of specialized link sites and such. On one of my earlier sites I had an "add-a-link" page where people could post links to web pages but it was supposed to be confined to a specific topic. The page got into one of those site submission programs and I was flooded with non-relevant links. It was easy for me to cut them off by adding an extra option to the submission form, but I had some extra time one day and set up another program to track who was actually posting the links. I finally e-mailed the webmaster of one of the sites, selling health insurance for children, informing him that his method of advertising his site was putting his link right alongside advertisements for child pornography sites. He stopped using it immediately. Many of the places those systems post your link are known for having tons of spam links. Top search engines such as google do consider that in determining the rating of your site. If they see your site linked from pages known for high spam link content they will assume yours is a bad site and drop your google rating right through the floor. So using those submitting services and programs can do you much more harm than good. The best way to submit to any search engine or link site is one at a time, carefully jumping through all hoops required so you know where your link is ending up.

Rider (why did they call him the "Lone Ranger" when he always had Tonto with him?)

I know I have posted a review here before but with the recent negativity in this corner I really feel a need to say this. I read once that if you want a really good restaurant experience, find a place near a retirement community. As people get older, they are less likely to put up with bad food or bad service and far more likely to raise hell about it. As I have gotten older, I have found this to be very true. I am now 53. I am an obstinate, stubborn old grouch and I'm darn proud of it. I recently forced Verizon to break their own policy and send me a check for $3.50 by starting legal action against them for it (they claimed they were too big to send out a check that small even though they admitted owing it). I simply don't take BS from anyone and the bigger they are the harder I fight. But I have also worked in customer service and I know that 99.9 percent of customer service problems are user ignorance (blunt perhaps but nonetheless true). That is seldom the case with me. When I contact a company it is almost always because THEY have a problem and they had better figure it out quick or I will raise holy hell til they fix it and then take my business elsewhere. If you are going to deal with me you better deal straight. Yeah...I'm bull headed and proud of it. My point is this, if a company manages to keep my business and even gain my recommendation, you can bet your bottom dollar they talk straight, deal straight, and work hard to handle problems when they come up. Yes...there will always be problems, especially in an industry as complex as web hosting. I have had problems with TCH myself. Problems are part of life. It is what you do about those problems that makes the difference and that is just as true on both sides of the fence. Nearly every negative post I have read about TCH has been from someone who either didn't give them a fair chance or had unreasonable expectations. If you need some kind of extra service, take out a help ticket. If these folks can find a way to give you what you need and still make a profit, you can bet they will do it ( and profit is NOT a four letter word). If you are experiencing some kind of problem with TCH, contact them and be open to communication. You can bet they will fix it if humanly possible. They know their reputation is on the line with every problem that pops up and that is something they care about. If they didn't, I flat wouldn't be here. Lee

Or perhaps it might just be that the reason so many people are saying nice things about this company is that they have truly earned such praise. Now I admit that I'm not big on mysql data bases, but I'm not exactly a casual, occasional user. I have been programming and hacking since the days of punch cards. I have written in multiple languages including extensive work in binary and assembly. There are things I don't know but one thing I do know for sure is that you never test run your programs on a shared server. I have a nice little Linux white box sitting right here next to me that I use for such things. I have been building web sites since the Internet went public (I beta tested Compuserve's web hosting service). I have run web sites on everything from that little white box to a Beowulf cluster. I have seen just about every type of problem that can happen with hosting in both the technical and human aspects. Now I admit that my current web site really isn't much more than a one page personal site, but I use it extensively as my primary email connection and I would immediately notice any major outage or slowdown. I deal with Total Choice Hosting because I know I don't have to worry about the server end of it at all. If there is a server problem that these people are not all ready on top of, just let them know about it and they will be all over it immediately. It is becoming exceedingly rare to find any company so concerned with providing top quality service. Personally, I can be an old grouch at times. I have even been known to chew out a TCH rep or two, but take my business elsewhere? I'm not stupid! I have been elsewhere and I didn't like it at all. Lee

None of the major search engines cache any of my pages. I have this on every page: ><meta name="robots" content="noarchive"> Lee
