  1. No problem in Abilene
  2. So, in other words, I need to mount as read only, move the 30GB I have stored there and reformat to FAT32, re-mount as write and move everything back?
  3. I downloaded and installed Kubuntu, Ubuntu with KDE instead of Gnome, and have a question. The default installation does not mount windows partitions, but their wiki gives instructions on how to auto mount win partitions. These instructions also say that this should be set to read only because writing to NTFS is not safe. Ubuntu - wikipage Why, what can happen? Under XP I had this drive set up as my "download to" drive, I would like to continue to do so and access it with my other XP machine.

After all of the recomendations here for Ubuntu I thought I would give it a try. After realizing that Ubuntu is gnome I did some noseing around for a KDE version and found one Kubuntu. They say the only difference is that it is KDE.

I too have been looking for a Linux distro and came accross this review of Xandros /Corel LINUX >www.xandros.com >http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1738495,00.asp and knowing how reviews can be, I was wondering if anyone has / had any experience with it? I have installed their open circulation and it seems to be a little quirky and I'm curious if it's just me or not.
  7. Congrats to all.
  8. Had it parked for a little over a week before asking for the change over.
  9. Thank you.
  10. Since I run MT 3.x I thought I would post this here. Earlier today I submitted a help ticket requesting a change to my active domain name. I asked for an answer to a question before the change was to made which has not been answered, even now that my active domain name has changed. That question is / was, is there anything that I must do on my end before or after my active domain name changes?
  11. For MT, I agree. But that is not what I'm asking and I guess I may have posted in the wrong place. I ment in general what forums are read for ideas on what to include on a site that are brought back over to the bolg.
  12. As a newb I'm curious as to what are some of the other forums that the TCH blogger family read for insight, inspiration, hints, tips, tricks, etc for use on their blogs.
  13. I kno wAmericans tend to think they are better than everyone else, particularly Texans but last i checked texas was a state not a country <{POST_SNAPBACK}> semantics
  14. David, I apologize for not responding sooner. Thank you for your help and input, you've been a big help. Unfortunitly I have'nt been able to put it all to use yet. Thanks again.
  15. Ok, the folks I work for are boiler makers and do not know the difference between RAM and hard drive, system resources free and hard drive free space or that if you change from Netscape to MS IE or Firefox you don't have to change your ISP or your e-mail account. Today one of the guys in the office up graded from a P2-600,Win98SE, Office 97 to a P4 2.9, XP Pro, and Office XP. I'm open to sudgestions on the simplest way to edukate these folks on how XP works.
  16. My Archive URL is http://www.demesneofallen.com/mt/archives/ The .htaccess that is located in /public_html is different from the one that I referenced in my /public_html/mt. It has your recommended directives along with AuthName www.demesneofallen.com AuthUserFile /home/*/public_html/_*_*/* AuthGroupFile /home/*/public_html/_*_*/* DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm
  17. To my knowledge, MT does not ever generate an .htaccess file. If there's one there, I would assume that CPanel created it, or perhaps you did if you set up MT to use dynamic publishing. The only way to know for sure is to see what's in the .htaccess file now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The .htaccess file begins with ## %%%%%%% Movable Type generated this part; don't remove this line! %%%%%%% # Disable fancy indexes, so mtview.php gets a chance... Options -Indexes (There is alot more that text I didn't include) and it ends with ## ******* Movable Type generated this part; don't remove this line! *******
  18. David, thank you for the help. The changes to the cfg were easy enough however, MT Core Setup shows my archive path to be /public_html/archives when it is, as you saw, physicaly located /public_html/mt. Since MT Core Setup thinks archives is somewhere it is not, I'm supprised it is working. As for .htaccess, there is already one located at /mt with directives that MT generated. Do I insert your recommended directives before or following what MT has generated?

Problem solved. I had to add my site to the yahoo database.
  20. There is no particular reason to discuss this in private. It's just that in my neck of the woods there is no one that is remotely interested in the mechanics of a blog/web site and they don't know what I'm talking about and I need help straightening somethings out. What I'm needing is someone to help me correct the mistakes I found when I went to W3C. And I don't know what a properly installed site should look like so I'm needing someone to take a look at my directory structure and make sure that everything is in the correct place with the apporpriate permissions. I have no problem doing the work, I just don't know what I'm looking at. I know that this is probably asking alot of someones time, but I do need the help and didn't think the forums would be appropriate place to do this.
  21. Who among you is the hands down MT master? I would like to talk to you.
  22. Earlier today I submitted a help ticket to park a couple of domains and it took every bit of 5 minutes for the help desk to get it taken care of and respond that the ticket was now closed. The only question I have is, what took so long?

We are looking at the samething. I got the idea from Darren Rowse at probloger I have looked up several other blogs this way and am able to add their RSS to my yahoo. However, I found out lastnight that my site is not W3C compliant and will probably have to fix that before any tricks / tweeks will work.
