Yea, I completely hosed my forums when I tried the first time... luckily I took a db backup this morning... so I re-installed through cpanel and uploaded the db... all was well. Then I figured out how to upgrade thanks again!

I literally scratched my head on this one Bill... trust issues? That's something you have with a new girlfriend, not a hosting company as fine as TCH (lol). But as you said, you can't be everything to everyone, but you're pretty darn close (judging by how many people frequent these forums).

The thread gave me a good idea... basically I downloaded the "changed files only" package, found the 2.0.11-2.0.15 archive, uploaded those files, and ran the update_to_latest.php from the /install directory, and all is peachy now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

That is a nice template Serpentine. Personally for my blog I use blogger with FTP upload. I originally had a pre-defined template but I made heavy modifications and eventually scrapped it. The template I currently use matches exactly with the template that the rest of my site (with the exception of the forums) uses. I'll work on the forums eventually.

Netscape? They are still around? lol. I'm not a huge fan of installing anything that install extra stuff with it that I don't know about... last time I installed netscape it installed AOL Instant Messenger and a link for AOL 9.0 (in case I wanted to go from my high-speed cable ISP to a stinkin dial-up which is slower than if I ran to the server, copied the site to a disk, ran back to my computer and loaded it manually). Sorry about the rant lol.

Ok I have a question about upgrading my phpBB. I installed it through cpanel many moons ago, and I would like to upgrade it to 2.0.15. So I uploaded all the files (overwriting the old ones). Upon visiting the URL, I was faced with the install script. I chose upgrade, however by chosing that I couldn't select anything else than MySQL 3.x, and TCH servers use MySQL 4.x. I still tried to upgrade, and got a "couldn't connect to database" error. I then tried to do a fresh install and obviously had problems with that (the database was already populated from the previous forum). I finally got everything restored back to a semi-sane state... but I would like to know how I should go about upgrading. Perhaps it's because the phpbb user in the database didn't have a password (and I was using a password in the install script)? Because when I set up phpbb through cpanel it doesn't prompt for a password for the phpbb user. I hope this is clear as mud for everyone. Can anyone help?
