  1. I am attempting the installation. I am supposed to install the file in my "webservers document root". Is that the "www" folder or the "public_html" folder in my site directory? hmmmm, they look like they're about the same thing.
  2. So if I install phpmyadmin myself will I need to install a certain version to make it compatible with mySQL (will I also need to install mySQL)? thanks.
  3. Thanks Lisa. I posted right after you and didn't notice your reply!
  4. Thank you. I wonder if there is any other way to access phpmyadmin besides cPanel?
  5. anyone ? I'm not always this impatient but I have someone who is willing to help me with a database so I don't want to inconvenience him too much. Thanks.
  6. Hi. Is there a way to give someone access to phpmyadmin without giving them full access to cPanel? Thanks.
  7. I actually knew that. I always go to the thread if I do receive a notification.
  8. That was very enlightening Jim. Thanks for the post! Sometimes I see URLs without the "www" (that don't have a subdomain), how and why would that be done? For example, http://website.com
  9. I gave that consideration too but I do receive some notifications but not all of them...even from the same thread I get some notifications of replies but not for others. Thanks.
  10. is there a list of the naming conventions for folders/files on a Linux server like TCH is using.
  11. thanks Don but for some reason I'm not getting the notifications...matter of fact, I didn't get a notification that you had replied. I don't want to get notified of every thread that I have started or replied to, just certain ones.
  12. I've looked at some of those pages for versions but I wasn't sure they were always kept up to date. For example, http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/help/cpanelpage.htm says tch is running cPanel 8 but I think they are actually running cPanel 9. edit>>> this page says cPanel 8.5 http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/web-hosting-plans.html That's the only reason I like to ask on this board--I always get great/accurate answers.
  13. anyone else not get emails even though you have subscribed to a thread? Any idea why that is happening to me? hmm
  14. is one preferred over the other depenidng upon situation?
  15. Yes, Raul, your reply now definitely helps, thank you. Are the "ftp" and "anonymous" accounts as dangerous as they sound? Anyone could upload/download whatever they want unless I disable it? Why would they be available by default...it seems like a significant security issue. Thanks.
  16. Yeah, I was trying to find out as quick as I could...someone was willing to help me with a forum but I needed to set up an FTP account for him pronto so I was reading and watching the movies in the tch "help" section. If I had more time I would have tried it but I don't have an FTP program yet. I always use cPanel's File Manager to do things...is that not a good way to manage/maintain a site? It seems like FTP must have some advantages to it. Btw, anyone know about this: Thanks.
  17. So the subdirectory [in my case: (/forum)] part of the username? Regarding the 4 Main Accounts that were listed in the "FTP Account Maintenance" area they are: (the account username) ftp@(sitename).com anonymous@(sitename).com (the account username)_logs@(sitename).com Does anyone happen to know what the differences between these are? Thank you again.
  18. I created a an FTP account for someone to have access to a subdirectory. So does their username include the name of the subdirectory in it? The reason I ask is because on the cPanel "FTP Account Maintenance" area it shows a space before the subdirectory name and the subdirectory name is in parentheses. [e.g., user@website.com (/forum)] Thanks! P.S. I also noticed that there are four FTP 'MAIN ACCOUNTS' on the "FTP Account Maintenance" area . What is the difference between them?
  19. which version of PHP is installed on the servers? Also, how often does TCH update PHP, mySQL, cPanel, etc versions? Thank you.
  20. Yes, I found a poll at www.snappoll.com It works but when I my site gets fully developed I will look, again for something, with more administrative features. Thanks for asking!
  21. Hi Mike. I am new to quite a bit of this so I'm not quite sure what you mean when you "don't actually provide Fantastico on the TCH servers". I found the script by going through Fantastico on cPanel. Since I am having such a hard time with that Advanced Poll is there one that TCH supports/provides. Thanks for helping out MikeJ! I've really made a mistake here I was looking at the cPanel of my last host and I thought I was on the cPanel that is on tch! I do understand NOW what Mike meant about not offering Fantastico on tch servers. Sorry about the confusion. By the way, any idea why I am not receiving email notifications of replies when I have signed up for them? Thanks.

  23. I'm looking for information on how to install the Advanced Poll that is in cPanel's Fantastico. I have the poll created and I believe it is showing the code that needs to be pasted into the exisiting page's code but I seem to be doing something wrong. Are there instructions anywhere? Thank you.
  24. I agree that it could be worded somewhat better. Luckily I new that I had to point to the TCH DNS servers but I didn't think that had anything to do with "transferring" my domain.
  25. I received an email from tch, after ordering hosting service, and part of the email desrcibed "DNS Instructions". It says, ========================================== DNS Instructions: If you purchased or hosted a new domain with TotalChoice you can ignore the next section of this letter, as it does not apply to new domains. However, please note that new domains can take up to 72 hours to become active. If you have transferred your domain to TotalChoice, you MUST visit your registrar and update your DNS pointers to the following: NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM ========================================== I orignally registered my domain at another registrar so does that mean that my domain is no longer with that registrar? Thanks.
