If you have some time to play around give a try to mythTv! You can create a mythtv box very easily ans it requires less ressources than MP9. It is also useful even if you do not use the TV part Ludo

Google will not follow 404 error pages, you rmethod works for human but not for spiders. The 301 method works better, a very bsaic index.php redirecting the spider and sending them a 301 eroor shoudl works better, even if they do not like it much too.. In fact the redirection SE like the most, it the stupid javascript ones. Cos' they will usually index the link on that pages before they are redirected... Annie, google followed all the links available and when they are on website like tch, they are likely to be followed very often, then it is more than normal to get you listed in being a member here. Regarding the facts of using a pics to avoid being spidered... hmm not sure that it works. Sure it will works if it's only a pic but as you made a link on it, I believe google will still follow it, but I may be totally wrong... And to conclude as Dick, I do not understand the paranoia of some people... If you want to be completly anonymous you can easily, just don't link your site etc... Change of nick name... Yeah give it a try to FC2... I choose FC for several reason but the main ones are: - Free ! I have used Suse before but you have to pay to use it, I like to have it for free and give the same amount and even more (if I check my bank account) to help the dev on specific projects. - FC is coming out *very* often. In fact, it will be the only distro out there which is free and which is going to be updated with lots of new things... like GCC, Gnome etc... others are updated too, but not the same way. lol I know my explantion on that point is crap but I don't know how to explain myself better, I have to learn some new english words - The FC mailing... Even if I like more forum, FC ml is great, you have a prbl within min usually you get an answer.. that's a quite heavy ml but really useful! I don't have a problem with M$ in fact, it's more with their way of thinking and their "monopole" (is it english this word?) idea... They have done some great software like M$ Autoroute Express or M$ visio, but I do not see the point in paying $$$$ for having a windows when you can now uselinux very easily. One of my marketing teacher is working at microsoft europe and is the anti-piracy guy for microsoft (belgium or europe not sure) and we had some nice discussions about microsoft and open-souce etc... I like some of their tools but not all of them... Like one thing I find too intrusive it's their policy that after 12 install of windows, you licence is "dead". Or if you want to install it anonymously even if you paid, you can but only once, if you need to reinstall it, they will not give you a second time the activation key unless you provide your contact details... And the last thing, I don't like about tools that are not open source are the spyware! They can come on my computer I only use open-source nothing to hide, but I just don't like the idea of taking info from you and sending them wherever... Ludo

I don't know much about Gmail.. lots of threads were about that on EMD, butI do'nt know if I would like to have an account there... I have a specific domain for emails and also have backup emails account in 2 of the most reliable email providers (FM and RB), I don't think that i would ever use Gmail... ok, If I got a free invit , I wil ltry that out but I will not use that as main email... My main concern is about spam in fact... what is the domain which receives the most spams? ermmm let me think... hotmail,, isn't it? why? because there are famous and *crapy* (did I say that? lol) I am affraid with Gmail, as they are very well know due to google that they will be heavily spammed... I may be totally wrong and I hope so, but that's my personal "fear" about Gmail... The second one will be the "big brother" thingie as they browse your emails to display ads... I will never ever accept that... But if you are not scared of received lots of spams, nor to have your email checked, then I agree Gmail is great Ludo

Evening! I had to start this thread... I di d not like to only see 2 threads about m$ I wonder if there is lots of TCH members that are linux user? And if you are one, what distro are you using? About me: I'm running Fedora Core 1 on my laptop which is going to be soon upgraded to FC2, just need time to backup all my courses and reports... And I run Fedora Core 2 on my "desktop" computer. I can't really call it a desktop as it's the most important thing in my small student room I run MythTV on it, and basically that's my multimedia center with a 22' Mitsubishi screen, dolby 5.1 and 330Go HDD And I also use Knoppix, when I am in deep sh*t... To all the Windows user, burn a knoppix cd, reboot your computer and you will be amazed to see, how easy is linux (now..) you may even want to create a linux partition on you HDD after that Ok, I still have the windows 3.1disks and the win98 cd-rom but I do not use them anymore What about you? Hello, hmm there is something that I do not catch.. I manage my dns with dnsmadeeasy, which allow me to change quickly the IP of the A record, as they update their DB every 30 mins or less... yesterday, it was working fine untill now where I'm redirected to me old ip even when my config is pointing to the new one... That's why I was wondering if ISP can have kind of DNS cache effect or ??? that could create this problem? I really do not understand this behaviour and I don't know if it's a dns one, or an ISP one or ...? any idea? Ludo

Hello, I never ever programmed in perl before but for the last few days, I have been trying to create a small script to check if an app is ruuning and if it's not to run it. For me, that's the uptime and the service. Ok, I'm new then I cannot speak much :D but I made my choice after reading lots of review and getting advices from friends on WHT. We will see if I still agree with that in 1 year, but if I still agree with that in one year, I will have a reseller or a dedicated server... Hello, I am wondering onething Is it useless to have a backup email server when you are hosted at TCH? Cos' I have one domain that I'm planning to move within the next 2 months, on a second account. It's not a hightraffic domain, but that's my email domain (lubox.com) on which I receive all my emails (Work related, Uni, friends, ML, etc...) Actually I had 2 mail servers but will I still need a backup one as the TCH uptime seems very good... What do you think? Ludo
